@Canon7130 I’ve been seeing that across many threads too.
One thing they may not tell you is that they might track the interest level of each student using all types of technology available to them.
It’s easy for colleges to see how many times a potential student has logged into his portal and which pages of their website has been read. When they send out a marketing email it’s also easy to see who opens the email and who clicks on the links on the emails and how much time is spent at their site.
It also helps to have visited the schools - at every school my daughter and I visited we had to sign in.
Bottom line is that each college wants to only admit those students who they think is likely to accept an offer.
@UCIWYA
Yes I know, which is why I had many people read mine as I’ve carefully analyzed the prompt and made changes accordingly. It was about my struggle and my achievements. What you’re saying might be true if I hadn’t gotten confirmation of how well my personal statement was written from others and the fact that the person who got into the same major as me stated that his personal statement was last minute. And I’ve dedicated all 4 years of my time into my EC. I actually think that my essays and ECs are probably the strongest points of my application, not my grades and test scores, which are only slightly higher than UCI’s averages.
@amy989
I admit that UCI is not the top school that I’ve applied to, but I don’t believe that I’ve shown it outwards. I’ve been on spring break and all I’ve been doing is staring at my phone for each college waiting for decisions. And it gets more depressing with each passing minute. I’ve been 3 for 3 in this week. 3 rejections and 3 acceptances.
OOS students will pay OOS costs all 4 years if their parents do not move and stay in California. A student cannot establish CA residency after one year by just attending a CA university. The information posted is incorrect.
“Chancing” literally does not work anymore. College decisions are absolutely unpredictable and you can never truly have a “safety” school now. I’m not sure if every year was like this, but perhaps the system was unusually corrupt this year. Like come on, our forums are mainly over 200+ pages. Either something was up this year of class of 2016 is a chatty class.
Guys I just want UCSD. It pains me that I was waitlisted when people with SATs 500+ points under mine and less than 3.7 were admitted to the same major (especially one of my friends). Like I want to be happy for them, but I just can’t help but question the legitimacy of the UC system of admissions
At this point its nearly certain that all of the acceptances have been handed out, I mean there havn’t been any large volumes of acceptances in a while. I know of only a small handful of people who were accepted yesterday.
@kaf120 i mean it is the weekend, so it makes sense that we wouldn’t have a lot of decisions. however, there have been a lot of acceptances from wednesday through friday. UCI’s instagram also said that acceptances (this includes in-state) will be released until the 31st, so there’s no need to give up yet!
TBH I doubt that UCI will do what they did last year, as they probably faced A LOT of criticism that they would most likely desire to avoid. Honestly, I still have hope for acceptances coming out, as I feel that a lot of you have pretty competitive stats.
