@Ulyssesa685 what are your stats?
hey you guys know if we have to SIR to UCI if we just appealed or do we SIR after the appeal decision?
Did anyone else get Discover Scholarship?
My daughter just got accepted off the wait list today. She checked her portal and saw the great news. This is important that it was before the SIR deadline because I contacted UCI Student Housing last week, and although many people think campus housing is guaranteed for Freshman taken off the wait list after May 1st, IT IS NOT! They told me in an email that if you miss the housing application deadline on May 1st, you go on the housing waitlist. But with any info here on CC, don’t take my word for it. Do your own due diligence.
Now the hard part - she had several choices and already narrowed it down to two. With UCI now in the fold, she starts the decision process all over again…and May 1st is coming up fast.
@ucpleaseaccept you can’t SIR to UCI if you didn’t get in lol… however if you appealed and you got admitted then you can.
Congrats to your daughter! What did she apply for, and did she end up getting it?
so it looks like wait list decisions are starting to be released
@e92hoang - daughter admitted for Bio Sci. She did appeal the waitlist decision, but not sure if it made a difference.
nice! did she receive an email upon her waitlist/appeal decision or did she just check her portal?
After submitting her appeal 1-2 weeks ago, her portal changed to appeal received, decision pending. She checked it every few days after that, and saw yesterday that it changed to admitted. No emails as of today.
@overlyworriedparent Hi, congrats on your daughter on her admission! I am wondering if your daughter had to do anything else to appeal? My son was put on wait list a few weeks ago. He accepted the request on the portal to be put on wait list, here is his portal status:
Status: I Accept - Include me on the waitlist for UC Irvine admission consideration for fall 2016
Did she write a letter or something to appeal?
Thanks.
@kwy168 - thanks! She was super happy to see the positive change in status. My daughter followed the UCI procedure under the “Appeal to Selection Decision”, at this link:
https://www.admissions.uci.edu/applicants/resources/appeal_selection.html
Appeal deadline was April 15th. They said you need “New and Compelling Evidence” in order to submit an appeal. I’m not going to say whether or not what my daughter wrote in her letter showed any new compelling evidence, it might have. But it gave her a chance to submit two amazing letters of recommendation that she could not during the initial application submission. And I believe submitting the appeal also got her application to “the top of the pile” for another review. That said, we don’t know if this appeal helped in any way, but it looks like she was one of the first off the waitlist (just from what we read here on CC anyway). So who knows.
@overlyworriedparent Thanks for your reply. Was your daughter put in wait list or was she rejected before she appealed? I am happy for you. Now you should change your screen name to NoLongerWorriedParent
@kwy168 Daughter was wait listed and she appealed their decision to wait list her. Recommendation to anyone wait listed, is to proceed with your decisions without considering schools which have wait listed you. So she picked a school from her other top choices and submitted her SIR already. But with UCI back on her list, she wants to review her options again. Yes we will lose the SIR deposit if she decides to change, but it’s insignificant when you think about how important this decision is. So I’ll keep my screen name until May1st…haha!
@overlyworriedparent Hi I’ve been waitlisted too you said your daughter just got accepted from the Waitlist. Do you mind sharing her stats GPA, ACT,SAT?It would be nice to know!
Anyone here know the benefits of CHP? I didn’t receive it upon admission, but I believe that that’s because I was admitted to my alternate major. Regardless, is it worth transferring into CHP?
Also, wow. So many worthy people are getting waitlisted/rejected. I feel extremely lucky to have even made it into UC Irvine. Wish the best of luck to those who are on the waitlist/appeal.
@jindaltanya Yes, I did receive the Discover Scholarship. 3k per academic year for 2 years is pretty nice
@overlyworriedparent. Thanks for your reply. My son responded right away on his portal and accepted to be put on wait list but somehow he didn’t see an option to appeal with additional letter of recommendations. Wondering if he missed something on the portal. He has other options (Udub, Wisc, Purdue, UCSC) though he is still very interested in UCI. But if he is not going to hear back from UCI until after May 1st then he has no choice but to submit his SIR to the other school.
What other schools are your daughter considering? Thanks.
I submitted SIR to UCSB honors for pre-biopsychology (in case anyone was curious)
@kwy168 those are great options for your son, congrats! I’m not sure there is an option on the UCI portal to allow you to appeal. We thought about an appeal after hearing others do it in previous years (here on CC). So we just went to the UCI.edu website and searched appeal…bingo. And UCI’s Appeal Information page did say the “Appeal to Selection Decision” was to ‘reevaluate the admission decision’…which we interpreted as a wait list decision for our case.
We hear that UCI (and other UC’s) typically start taking people off the waitlist after May 1st up to June 30th. It’s when the dust settles and they see who takes their offers of admission and what spaces open up. So there is always a chance to get off the waitlist. But like they say, don’t count on it and SIR with one of your other choices, just in case. I read one year that a UC took students off the waitlist as late as August. Yikes! I think students would have moved on long before that.
@jackisawesome Is there a reason as to why you didn’t want to attend UCD? Both UCSB and UCD are equal in terms of… everything essentially (except campus), but I’m curious.
