Students are as proactive with declines as they are anything else. YMMV. But probably a lot will decide/decline right after the Ivy/Cal announcement date.
From what I recall last year it was batches at first and then seemed to be as they became available (which may have just been smaller batches).
Hello, I have been wait listed, and applied as a History Major. I was wondering what are the odds I get in, if there are any. I did my own research and didnāt seem to so great getting off the list. Just wanted your guys opinions.
Have you looked at the waitlist admit data on the top of the page?
2023 admit rate 13.5%, 7% in 2022 and 0% in 2021 so you can see how much it will vary from year to year.
There is no way to know your chances. UCSD will wait to see how many admitted students enroll May 15 and then if there are any spots open to admit students from the waitlist.
All you can do is opt into the waitlist and move on to your other acceptances.
I reaaally want my application to get off the waitlist at UCSD, and if It does, I would 100% take it. Would it be wise to inform admissions of this? Some college counsellors are saying it is, but Iām pretty sure that UCSD does not accept LOCI, etc (??)
UCSD like all UCās do not consider an applicantās level of interest so there is nothing you can do. I know of a couple of students that emailed admissions asking if they submit an LOCI or an update and they were told not to send anything.
To be fair to all applicants, additional materials cannot be accepted and will not be reviewed if sent.
The waitlist review is just a continuation of the original UC application information.
Question: My daughter is on multiple UCās waitlists. She will accept a spot at a CSU campus by May 15. If my daughter manages to get off the waitlist for UC Davis and submits a SIR for UC Davis and then a few weeks later, she manages to get off the waitlist for UC Berkeley, can she submit a 3rd SIR to, this time, UC Berkeley? Or can she only get off of one UC waitlist? Among the 4 UC waitlists she is on, she has a definite preference list. Planning in case she gets off one or more UC waitlists before she gets off the waitlist for her #1 choice.
Yes, she can accept a waitlist admit from one UC and withdraw from the original school then if admitted off another UC waitlist, she withdraw from the 1st UC and accept the 2nd UC waitlist offer etc. There is no limit.
Each time she withdraws, she will lose the enrollment deposit so it can get pricey if she switches schools a couple of times.
Appeals are for outright rejections. Waitlist means you are qualified but there is no space. You need to find another school you will be happy at before SIR is due and be willing to lose a few hundred $ if you do make it off the waitlist.
UCSD last year in their waitlist FAQ stated the waitlist is not ranked. Not sure if it is an oversight they just have not removed that information from their CDS.
As I stated before, I am sure there is a āMethod to their Madnessā but no one of us are privileged to know.
I just saw that today and admits were either selected for their alternate majors or Undeclared. Surprised they are starting this early since there is talk the UCās are extending the SIR deadline to June 1 (not confirmed) due to the on-going FASFA problems.
