UCLA Class of 2020 Applicant Discussion

can’t believe there are nearly 10 pages on here dedicated to this email by the way.

@Muttle1 do you think the alumni scholarship invite is a good sign? I got one too and only about 10 percent of the kids in my school got it.
I also noticed that one kid (engineering applicant) who had good stats (2400 SAT and a good GPA )but not great EC’s and essays (I read his essays and they were really general) did not the alum invite. So I do think that the alum invite is a good sign, because it looks like it’s sent to people who are good applicants all around, not just in GPA and sat. Would you agree?

@bruin2020 I think it is a positive sign, but very far from a concrete assurance of admission. For TFT, it may not even mean much since admission is based partly on academics but mostly on portfolios, interviews or auditions. But still we can’t help looking at these emails and hope they mean something. I shouldn’t say we, my D is very calm and doesn’t think they mean anything at all and that they are randomly sent. She thinks I am nuts for analyzing all of this.

@QNBLUE I applied to DMA but my portfolio was crap so I am really not expecting much

Just received a mass mail on Life at UCLA/Find Your Place…yes, it means nothing.

I got regents invite and didnt get any email so…
Don’t be so anxious guys just wait for the results speculating wont help you as of now xD

I got the email everyone is talking about at 1PM yesterday, too. I didn’t think anything of it so I just moved it from my inbox to another folder. Pretty sure it doesn’t mean anything though…

@mikat98 crap? mind sharing your portfolio with me? Very curious about what other applicants submitted.

I got mine yesterday at 2 PM PST. Pre-Cognitive Science major.

Maybe they emailed it to the people whose decisions have already been decided on. Perhaps, as the weeks roll on, everyone will receive the email, especially after UCLA is done with their admission review process (before acceptances).

Also, I received the email regarding the “newbruins@saonet.ucla.edu” at 6 PM PST February 27.

Stats:
3.88 UW
4.2 W (UC)
SAT: 2170
Major: Neuroscience
In-State (LA Area)
Essays were pretty good and I have a few big major-focused extracurriculars
Did not receive UCLA supplemental, but did receive UCSD supplemental

Haha just read like 13 pages of the thread @IBGuy101

BTW, just realized that I received like 2-3 Berkeley alum scholarship emails- I did not get a UCLA alumni one lol aw :frowning:

I just wish we all got accepted. Yall look like great and hardworking students.

@jackisawesome, but some Regent invitees didn’t get the email.

@jackisawesome The berkeley alumni email is sent to all applicants. The UCLA one isn’t.

@IBGuy101 hopefully we do!!!

I know @CalDude2020 I legitimately thought that I had received it, but was probably just a figment of my imagination  Whatever, even if we don’t get into UCLA, there will be so many other opportunities! For example, my brother had same stats and was In-State for all UCs. Only got UCSB Honors and University of Washington acceptances and was waitlisted at UCSD and Davis, Denied to UCLA and Berkeley. Was a tough year for admissions but now he is at UDub (uni of Washington) and he has found that his school is incredible and is the perfect place for him. Regardless of all superficial statistics and ratings, the majority of schools (if not all) that we applied to should present tremendous opportunities to every single one of us, and should give us a foundation for the future, whether it be for med school or entering the career force. Now, on a brighter note, I really do hope that we all get the decisions that we are awaiting in 3-4 (ish) weeks. Good luck y’all

Well said @jackisawesome!

I got the find your place in Ucla email on Wed 2/24/16 8:00 AM
