UCLA Class of 2020 Applicant Discussion

@kuidaore why are you scared? :slight_smile:

Hey Guys!
I’ve been reading this forum for super long and finally decided I should comment!
So I applied to UCLA because my application was free and I totally figured why not plus it would be the dream to go here, even though I thought for sure I wouldn’t get in.
Here are my stats
1900 SAT
4.04 WGPA
3.96 UWGPA
Live in California
Filipino
my household parent literally makes $0.00 a year
my first personal statement was about being a captain of my soccer team but having to have 3 replacement knee surgeries forcing me to quit/give up scholarship opportunities
my second personal statement was about having my dad be in and out of jail and working two jobs to support myself and buy a car etc.

So like I said I didn’t think I’d get in but I got the supplemental questionnaire and realized barely anyone gets it, so do you guys think I have a chance of getting in despite my lower stats?

Also I applied undeclared life science and I know that’s there highest accepted major

@laurad765849 You actually have a very decent chance of getting an acceptance… You strategically applied to a low risk major at the College of Letters and Science. Your GPA is good, SAT could be better. I say your in. Good luck 17 days!!

Ahhhh I wish we could all get accepted!

My sister went to UCLA and graduated recently. She told me that none of the girls on her side of her floor freshman year had above a 28 on the ACT or a 3.8 weighted GPA…while she was a 2200+ SAT 4.9 GPA Valedictorian. UCLA accepts a super diverse pool of applicants, everyone has a shot! We got this guys!

Thanks for the response! Good Luck to you too!

@IBGuy101 UCLA only looks at the college one applies to, not the major

yes I meant college of letters and sciences which has the highest acceptance rate

@cf9882 I’m fearing a rejection :frowning:

@kuidaore Ohh I gotcha. Yeah me too! But we have 17 days left unless you are waiting till the end of the month to see all of them at the same time.

is it just me or has UCLA stopped sending emails? Just confirming

@laurad765849 - If you got the supplemental you are on the borderline. UCLA wants to accept you, but at the same time they do not. They just need more information, and as long as you did what they say about elaboration in addition to you asking this online on College Confidential, you should most likely get in. This is not just me, but on here and especially on Reddit, people who got the supplemental get accepted. It’s crazy. I have only saw like 1 out of 20 people on Reddit get denied, and that one person who did get denied said he didn’t do the supplemental.

Apparently only 6% get it and it’s a flip of a coin for admission, but the acceptance rate has never been confirmed.

I got it as well, and I am more than happy that I got it. I could care less if I got rejected since I did get into one of my top 5 choices (San Jose State, as of now going there), but if I do get in…I have no idea what I will do, seriously. I will be a huge freaking inspiration…big time. The fact that UCLA sent me this just…I can’t really put it into words. :slight_smile:

Anyway, good luck. I’m proud of you!!!

I haven’t received an email from UCLA since Saturday @AdaezeU

@jackisawesome I’m just making sure I’m not the only one. What’s your first choice?

So if you didn’t get a supplemental, does that mean you’re either fully a yes or fully a no?

@vi0linmonster Some people will get waitlisted.

Thanks so much for this advice! I was super honored to get that supplemental questionaire. I also got into one of my top choices as well (San Diego State) but I would definitely take the opportunity to attend UCLA :)!
Good Luck!

@laurad765849 congrats & good luck!

I haven’t received the alumni scholarship thing from UCLA. Bad news?

@AdaezeU OOh hard! Haha probably UCLA, Berkeley, or Cornell (I’m hoping to get into one of them to make the decision easier tbh). But number 1 would probably be UCLA. UCSD is also a really big one for me! Hbu?
