UCLA Class of 2020 Applicant Discussion

@Rahulbarcafan No, not at all! The Alumni Scholarship Invitation is only sent to around 4,000 kids, and UCLA accepted a little over 16,000 last year. So it’s nothing to be worried about!

What does it mean if I got an Alumni Scholarship Invitation but didn’t get a supplement? And my application is just like the average UCLA applicant…

@bosnian how do you know it’s only sent to about 4000 people? Does that mean those who got it have a good chance of getting accepted?

The alumni scholarship invitation generally means that people are accepted. It’s about a 70-85% probability of acceptance; HOWEVER, it is no 100% guarantee. The supplement is for borderline applicants. If completed, it generally is a good sign that they are considering you; however, I would like to think that the alumni scholarship invitation is a much better guess at admission to UCLA.

How was the supplemental received? Email, mail, the portal? If we did not get the supplemental request, does that mean we are most likely not being admitted? Any chance of still getting it?

Considering most accepted students get neither the supplement nor the alumni scholarship invite, I wouldn’t be worried at all

Honestly, I don’t really know. The email would have been sent out by email and would be accessible only through the link in the email (which gives a one-time completion form). I’m actually pretty worried because I got the supplemental for UCSD, but not for UCLA. SO…if I am borderline for UCSD, what does that make me for UCLA? Granite, I do acknowledge that the two schools are very different in their selection processes and that UCLA is more holistic. But still, kind of scary when I start thinking about my future plans for college and worrying about denials/acceptances

I got the supplemental request by email around a month and a half ago. They said it was optional to fill out and they did not send this to everybody. I logged onto my portal and there was a huge box thing on the top that said Supplemental Questionaire and it asked three questions!

Also it was due February 14th so they won’t be sending out anymore I don’t think

It was only through email, and I believe they’ve stopped sending requests as of a few weeks ago. But don’t be discouraged if you didnt get the request because only a very small portion of applicants get it. it could just mean that you’ve already been accepted and that they didnt need further info to make their decision.

@jackisawesome do you know in what ways is the application process different between UCLA and UCSD? I hope to at least get into either one of these 2… Also did you get an alumni scholarship invite?

I might be a little bit biased, but from what I have heard, UCLA and Berkeley are more holistic than UCSD and the other UCs. A lot of the other UCs are mostly data driven; yet, UCLA and Berkeley tend to be more flexible (idk how to put it)? And I didn’t get the alumni scholarship invite for LA

What are some of the most applied to majors at UCLA? (The ones where the applicant pool will be extra competitive) Or does UCLA not decide based on major choice?

@cahopeful2020 Major doesn’t matter for CAS, but for CoE applicants like me, they admit by major

What is CAS and CoE?

What is CAS and CoE?

@cahopeful2020 CAS is College of Letters and Sciences, and CoE is College of Engineering known as HSSEAS at UCLA

@jackisawesome So the alumni scholarship basically means you got in? How does that work because i received it for berkeley and not LA

The supplement is only for music theatre and stuff like that right? Not for COE?

@Rahulbarcafan Yes, supplement is such thing like a portfolio. Since you applied for engineering, I don’t think you need a supplement
