UCLA Class of 2020 Applicant Discussion

Is the mechanical engineering program easier to get into at UCLA? as compared to the CS program or the computer engineering program?

@asiankid88 Berkeley sends the alumni scholarship to all their applicants whereas UCLA only sends it to a selected number of their applicants. Don’t worry a lot of people still get accepted without receiving a supplemental or an alumni invite.

@Rahulbarcafan you’ll wanna look at this. It’s interesting. http://www.seasoasa.ucla.edu/wp-content/uploads/seasoasa/UCEE-Report-2015.pdf scroll to undergrad freshman admission statistics

For Berkeley, everyone receives the alumni scholarship invite. For LA, only a small group of people receive the invite. @asiankid88

@deepblueocean I mean, yes. But the supplement we were referring to is an additional questionare that asks questions about any problems one has encountered, as well as a few other questions and first semester senior grades.

@jackisawesome Oops, that’s embarrassing. I totally knew what I meant. Lol, I am helpless today. But thanks for letting me know.

Haha no you’re good! I totally would have thought that if I hadn’t received one for SD xD @deepblueocean

Berkeley sends it to everyone and UCLA only sends it to some, but everyone can apply

No, this is a difference to supplemental. This supplemental can be sent to anyone who applied to any colleges and asks them there talents, any hardships they went through, and what grades they got the beginning of senior year. Supplements for other schools are required when they submit there application. The supplemental questionaire we’re talking about was sent out in late January

http://www.seasoasa.ucla.edu/wp-content/uploads/seasoasa/UCEE-Report-2015.pdf This report is interesting. So all decions have been made already?

@labyrinth1997 That’s for last year.

@IBGuy101. But there is admission stats for 2015-2016

@labyrinth1997 I think its too soon, especially from an individual college to release data about this year’s applicants. UCLA barely even told us when they will send out acceptances and denials.

Just my opinions though. I could be wrong.

Can anyone tell me when UCLA is planning to release their decision? They’ve been so quiet on my end and it is making me very nervous.

@SD2020 It seems like everyone is banking on the 18th of March. So, yea, anywhere between March 18-20 is a reasonable guess.
You got an early admit into UC Berkeley… you are set right now haha. Good Luck.

Thanks @IBGuy101! I’m from SoCal so I’m hoping for a viable acceptance closer to home (but not too close!) Hahaha

I know that UCLA doesn’t look at major in the CoL&S, but if I applied under a less common major (Spanish) and have a strong passion for it and have lots of ECs relating to Spanish, will that help me in any way? My second UC essay was about Spanish too.

@madsurf Of course!!! That’s what I did when I applied to UCLA for Linguistics and Computer Science. It is clear to see that when you read both my personal statements and EC’s, I have an interest in programming and computer science. I was too scared to apply to the engineering school haha. good luck!

@McKilla99 well that sucks  Low acceptance rate for mech

@Rahulbarcafan no it’s for all colleges. I got it for COE
