A post was split to a new thread: UCLA vs. UC Berkeley for Pre-Med Track
Hi do you happen to know if anyone was invited for regents this year?
I have not heard about anyone receiving Regents as of yet.
I called the admissions office yesterday and was told that the delay in regents was due to fafsa delays. To me that sounds like regents is not only merit base but also need based
- All Regents Scholars are considered for a $2,000 honorarium regardless of financial need.
- If a Regents Scholar has additional financial needs beyond the $2,000, the scholar will be awarded a university scholarship and/or grants to cover the remainder of the scholar’s need.
As stated by @cy7878, there is a need-based component to the Regents scholarship but it is unclear if the need-based portion is available to all Regent scholars such as the OOS and International students. This would be something of interest if an OOS or International student got an additional need-based amount as a Regents recipient.
California students have the additional benefit of the State aid that these other 2 groups of students to do not have access and the FAFSA is a requirement.
- Regents Scholars may NOT transfer from schools within UCLA to continue to receive the Scholarship. All schools select their Regents Scholars differently, such as the School of Arts Architecture, Theatre & Film, and School of Music select their scholars based on their artistic portfolios. The College of Letters & Science and School of Engineering will select their students based on academic abilities.

I also found this interesting, if you change major outside the school, you lose the scholarship.
Has anyone done the Admitted Student Tour?
There are some info on the UCLA website, but any first hand experience is appreciated.
I will be attending with S24 and his best friend tomorrow afternoon and can report back
We did, there was a welcome video and talk in the lobby of a sporting venue, a brief q&a with two current students, then a campus tour, then a housing tour. We got to go inside a triple dorm room. Unfortunately we had to leave at this point so not sure what else the housing tour entailed.
Looks like you didn’t miss anything after that. Same events here just different order.
We had afternoon session today so it started with the Housing tour. Saw one deluxe triple after some housing specific q&a. Then a nice general celebratory admissions presentation and q&a with two current Bruins at Pauley Pavillion and a live 8-clap training session 🩵
Financial aid and housing representatives were staffing booths nearby for more info during breaks.
Lots of good questions from the ~20 admitted students in attendance before we split off into smaller groups for 90minute campus tour.
S24 appreciated that the sessions were more intimate than the huge prospective student tour last fall. However, other than dorm visit, content was not that much different except when students/parents asked specific questions. So I highly recommend coming ready to engage and chat with students at check in table etc to get the most out of the day.
Our tour didn’t go inside library or classrooms etc which may be missed opportunity. S24s best friend was with us today and had done Engineering-specific tour earlier in the week which did get to explore inside so was more impressive on that front. Also our housing tour didn’t show any other dorm area features (no lounges, bathrooms, laundry, front desk, dining hall etc) which could be helpful for students trying to imagine life on the hill.
S24 has grown up attending games/ summer camps around UCLA campus but it was still a different feel walking around for him now that attendance is a very real option. April 13th full-day event might have good mix of this tour and more department-specific access but we chose to go to Cal Day instead since he has so much less exposure to Berkeley.
We did our tour today.
I very much appreciate everyone who chimed in their experience and for the most part ours was very similar.
The 930am intro with slideshow and three current students sharing their experiences. Then we went on a campus tour with a fairly knowledgeable 2nd year student.
The only hiccup for us was we missed the housing tour because our campus guide told us to go back into Pauley instead of meeting near the parking lot entrance (Coach Wooden Statue) so we completely missed the walk to “The Hill.” Luckily, the director of housing was headed back to his office and gave us a really great tour inside the building and get a feel of what the housing situation was like.
For people who can’t make 4/13, I would suggest signing up for one of these. We were able to get into a few of the lecture halls (Moore 100 for example) so S24 can check out the size of the room and how small the folding desk is (too small to place a laptop). But all the engineering building have card access and are pretty much off-limits, so unless you have someone to walk you around, science buildings are out.
Engineering offers tours M-F, but you need to arrange them in advance.
Yes. Thankyou. S24 actually had seen a few of the rooms when he did a HS field trip to UCLA a few months back. I was able to email the director for the MakerSpace who was gracious enough to have a few students show the HS kids around.
But being down in San Diego makes going to LA M-F very difficult…
I appreciate your candor, and your willingness to share. Computer Science seems to be much more competitive than most other Majors and I will admit that my expectations for my son had not factored that into the equation.
Has anyone received a Financial Aid letter yet?
Who is planning on attending Bruin Day this weekend?
We plan to attend with S24 (in the rain it looks like)…
5 posts were split to a new thread: Should a UC applicant “indirectly” disclose their SAT score in the PIQ’s
Looks like the rain didn’t start until the afternoon.
Anyone want to share what happens at Bruin Day for future applications?
