UCLA Class of 2029 Official Thread

someone above already received

Doesn’t sound right to me lol. My friend who got it last year who is a freshman at UCLA now said there wasn’t any application to do lol. UCLA just tells you if you got it or not, just like SD, SB, Irvine, and Davis. Unless it changes this year. Only Cal interviews

@Kiter refer this, I meant an invitei to the program.

Last year and this year, it appears Regents is automatically awarded and you will receive an email if you are a recipient. Emails were sent on March 22 but I am not sure if all were sent that day or there are more to come.

For me as a parent, having a triple is not bad. I had triple in in my first year (in Cornell) in the 80s. It worked out fine. It’s cheaper and possibly less roommate conflict cos there are always 3 persons and the possibility of not getting along both roomates might be lower? My rationale possibly isn’t logical.

How difficult is it to find a campus job? And is it very competitive to apply as an RA (resident advisor)? My D21 is an RA for 3 years in another college. She said she learned a lot plus housing and meals waived.

Oh and are the business clubs really hell on earth to get into (2-3% acceptance rate) like everyone says? :face_with_diagonal_mouth:

The bunked beds are crowded enough, but did you see the one loft bed with the working table underneath a few feet across the bunked beds? These triplets are like closets, but I agree it’s great for socializing and for the freshman experience. It’s only the first year after all, and an experience that probably won’t ever be repeated for the rest of the kid’s life. So my opinion is, got to do this freshman’s experience. It’s part of UCLA

From the relatives I have that either just graduated or are attending now, it hasn’t been difficult to find a job. I suppose it depends on how picky you are about what you do. I can’t speak to the RA position.

On another note, the Olympics will be in Los Angeles in 2028. UCLA will be the Olympic Village. The athletes will live in the dorms. It will be an exciting time to be in LA.

Is there an active parent group on Facebook for current students? Would love to join. We are OOS and so excited our kiddo was accepted (chemistry).

My freshman found summer job to be NSA . $19/hr for 3 month + Board and Food.

Is your freshman an international student? Regardless, this is great.

Thank you. This is only for enrolled students, right? If student has not yet committed, parents can’t join, am I correct? We are at a deciding phase.

This group is for anyone

Actually I remember they asked for us to commit first before accepting me into the group.

I just joined pending for approval. Is this specifically for Class of 2029? Thanks.

I have a 3rd year at UCLA, thought I’d share her experience on a few of the topics.

  • she was in a classic triple (Hedrick Hall) freshman year. Sure, it’s cozy but everyone is right. Super social. Lots of hanging in the lounges, lots of open doors. It’s a rite of passage at UCLA and worth the squeeze. In Hedrick, the Study is right downstairs and my daughter loved that. She still misses Study salads.

  • second year, she moved to a plaza triple with shared bath with her freshman year roommate and friends (they were a group of 6, 3 girls on each side of the shared bath. Much quieter, socially. Not that much lounging. Lots of second year or older students. It was a bigger room, with A/C, and a private bath for the 6 of them. But still a triple.

  • she now lives in an apartment off campus, but still easily walkable to campus (probably closer than Hedrick to classroom buildings). She has a tiny single in an older building for about $1100 a month, with 5 roommates. She also brought her car down.

  • some clubs are competitive. She got rejected a fair amount. But she landed well. She’s in pre-law fraternity, leads hikes, and plays ultimate frisbee on the club team. Just keep trying and it’ll work out—but it can be discouraging. She did learn to hustle and network.

  • she and a few friends have found on campus jobs pretty easily. My daughter worked in one of the campus restaurants, got the job easily after a 20 min interview. I think they always need food workers.

Congrats to the new baby Bruins! Happy to answer any questions based on my daughter’s experience. She (and we) love UCLA!
