I’m fairly certain only a subset of applicants have received the alumni scholarship email up to and including this year. For instance my D25 has not received the alumni but did receive the prospective student scholarship email. I’ll drop it though - just a bit of speculative fun anyway.
As far as I know and have seen on the social media posts, no one has gotten an email invite specifically to apply for the Alumni scholarship. The only email that has been sent has been for the Prospective Student Scholarship information and website link.
Yes, but the Deadline to apply: March 10, 2025 represents only Alumni scholarship in the list. Could be an indirect invitation to apply for Alumni scholarship.
We actualy received two separate emails - one for Prospective and one for Alumni scholarship separately. Although not reading anything into it as the emails clearly indicated.

It is interesting because when you click on the link in the prospective student scholarship, the website has all scholarship - including alumni scholarship.
Could you please click on the links on the two emails- are they pointing to the same website?

My daughter received the recruitment scholarship email and it also said due by March 10th. When you click on the link it lists a large number of scholarships, including the alumni scholarship. We didn’t see anything labeled recruitment scholarship. It is kind of strange the way there seemed to be three different emails.

Did she check the scholarship boxes? There were various categories, as far as i can remember..
Yeah my daughter got the alumni scholarship email in 2021 and was waitlisted. It was clear only some subset got it. It was somewhat annoying if memory serves because the essay was a lot of additional work for that stage of the game. (She ended up at Cal and it’s been a great fit for her.)
Same for S22; lot of unnecessary work, at this late stage, if the student is not being accepted ultimately.

My S18 did win the Alumni scholarship. It was a nice honor and the $1500 per year was useful (though he won other bigger merit scholarships from UCLA in subsequent years). But it is in no way as beneficial as a Regents scholarship - for example you don’t get priority registration or housing. And though there is an Alumni Scholars Club, it isn’t the same as the famous and very prestigious Student Alumni Association (SAA) club which is open to all (though extremely competitive to get selected for since it is limited to 100 members across all four years). SAA organizes Spring Sing and other high profile events like Dinner for 12 Strangers.

Yes, that’s right. You have to apply (with an essay I believe) and then decisions are made in the couple of weeks after admissions are announced. Most winners get $1500 per year.
Will it affect the admission decision if we are not applying for it?
Not applying for the Alumni Scholarship will have no impact on your admissions decision.

At this point, my OOS d values her final months as a senior more than $1.5k/yr.

If in the email it mentions gaining membership to the “alumni scholars club” as part of the scholarship reward, then that’s the one.
