does anyone know the questions format for the cs31 midterm?
i’m doing the class with prof. rohr this quarter. will we be tested on definitions and short answers or will it all just be coding and reading the code? thnx in advance.

You should be able to read, write, and change code. There won’t be any definitions.

Rohr added the “What is a computer?” question for his students when I took it.

For those of you admitted as a transfer student into engineering, what topics did you choose to write about for the “describe a personal quality, talent, accomplishment, contribution or experience” part of the personal statement?

I already wrote a draft, but one of my readers said it sounded boring and that I should talk more about myself rather than academic experiences. I thought it was good since I make a good reflection on the experience. What do you guys think?

^ i wrote about life experiences. crap i’ve been through and how that has shaped me into the manliest man you’ll ever meet. oh, and how those experiences have changed my path towards college. etc etc.

thanks Nit and grapesoda! does anyone happen to have last years’ questions? or could you just post a sample question? i just want to gauge the level of the test. (yes, i know i sound really really paranoid!) haha! thanks!!

You were lucky enough that they were looking for football players when you applied.

can anyone compare cs m117 with ee132a? and also cs 118 with ee132b? I have to pick one from each pair to take.

FYI EE132B isn’t being offered at all 09/10 year.

really? :(

Would potential employers favor the Computer Engineering major over the Computer science and Engineering major just because of the degree name? I checked the two and there are only about 4-5 differences in the required courses.

CSE > all (for job opportunities)

why?

^^ yeah, why???

there isn’t much of a difference between the two besides the name…

btw, way to go on announcing the lockheed martin info session LATE! ACT…

I assume you’re talking about the Computer Engineering pathway for EE majors? It honestly doesn’t matter too much what your major is if you have the skillsets that the company is looking for. And as of now, many companies are still hiring and seeking software engineers. That’s why the major Computer Science/Computer Science & Engineering catches the eye of the recruiter. EECE may mislead the recruiter and make them think that you’re looking for a hardware position, which isn’t as sought after as software engineers.

@GrassBandit - oh please, like I was responsible for that infosession  haha jk, but I didn’t even go - did you? Heard the turnout was pretty good.

Any UPE members here? How come when ever I go for tutoring, people are always waiting around, while the tutor spends all his (or her) time on one person?

I have now stopped going.

@MIC, yeah I went for the free food.

I know Qualcomm will be hiring mostly software people. IBM was looking for mostly hardware people according to their rep. I kept hearing that software and EE were in high demand, but who knows.

btw, i used to go to TBP tutoring last year because they had some attractive girls there but i don’t know about now.

Qualcomm has over 50 openings for CS positions, and they are only hiring hardware engineers who have at least a Masters.

@SSfren: I wasn’t aware that UPE offered tutoring (I’m an ex-UPE officer and current UPE member). However, TBP does offer tutoring and there should be multiple CS tutors.

@MadeInChina - my bad, someone told me UPE tutoring, and I didn’t bother to check who they were exactly.

But, anyway, the TBP - there was always one tutor - atleast for the upperdivs.
