UCLA Freshman Class of 2028 Waitlist/Appeals Discussion

Not yet, just a few students got off UCI waitlists days ago.

Lots of parents/students appreciated the information/advices you have been providing for years, plus it’s free.

Has anyone gotten through to UCLA Admissions and asked when students might start hearing back regarding the waitlist?

I guess they are closed right now:

(310) 825-3101

Regular hours:
Monday–Thursday, 1 p.m.–4 p.m. PST

From the FAQ Freshman waitlist:

Students on the waitlist are not ranked, and we do not know how many students will accept our waitlist offer. We notify students as early as possible after May 15th, and we will update students throughout the summer.

I think @skiing7789 was the one that made the initial comment that prompted folks to defend @Gumbymom .

I would say in one of the UC Counselor Conference videos, the UCI Executive Director of Undergraduate Admissions Dale Leaman gave a shout out to “Gumbymom” as her identity is not known to him. So, not only do parents/students appreciate Gumbymom’s volunteer efforts, but also someone in an official capacity in UC admissions.

I will call at 1 and see what they say. It’s 12:44 here on the West Coast, so not open just yet

I have messaged @skiing7789 and everything is settled. Everyone is anxious and getting inpatient with the process and they want some closure. I appreciate that my mistake was found and I could correct it.

Now onto the endless wait for some good news.

We all make mistakes, that what makes us human. It’s not a big deal at all, what kills me is the anxiety right now. I just want closure, like you said.

Thank you for all the work you do and the information you have provided.

I called and they made it very clear that the process of admitting students will not begin until after May 15. I also asked about rumors of the SIR deadline being pushed to June 1, and the operator also denied that. He said that UCLA is making progress in sending out all financial aid applications, and the deadline will not be pushed back any farther.

That is some excellent info — thanks!

And while I’m here, Gumbymom, you do an amazing job managing a place full of anxious, eager (read: overeager), and excitable students and parents. People like you, who are willing to do thankless jobs like this for the big fat salary of $0, are so important. Thanks!

By end of June, majority of the waitlisted should hear from UCLA admissions office.

My nephew is waiting patiently. He prefers UCLA because of the food, location, people and 1000+ clubs. UCLA seems the cheapest UC, we’re trying to make him In-state for tuition purpose next year.

He did lots of research, UCLA students are well-rounded, less nerdy there, and the curriculum is more flexible.

Let’s go! Bruins!

College decisions have always come at the most unexpected times, so maybe we need to just stop expecting it lol so the decision comes sooner.

Thank you @Gumbymom for your selfless contribution to these forums. I have found your information to be reliable and accurate. THANK YOU!!!
For those who are anxiously waiting (like me), here is an excerpt from the decision letter. It clearly states that waitlisters might start learning only after 5/15/24. I will do my part to cut the AOs (and the forum moderators) some slack and will be patient until I hear one way or the other.
“In the weeks following the May 15th commitment deadline, we will assess how many, if any, openings might be available for possible admission offers to students on our waitlist. Until that time, we will be unable to predict either the likelihood that we will go to our waitlist or the number of additional admission offers we might make.”

LOL. Then why you just called admissions office if you’re not expecting to hear from them soon

Everyone on waitlist needs the hope, and do need to commit to another school by May 15th.

I called the admissions office because the update on the portal indicated that they had begun admitting off the waitlist, which I was hoping to clarify. My point was that when we fixate over something less, it seems to come sooner.

Be real, be open, be kind!

You made 39 comments in this particular post. If you’re not expecting the closure sooner, why you wasted your time here.

We all know the tiny chance of getting off waitlist, we just want to hear from them sooner.

I don’t think you’re understanding my point here, lol. Of course, like every waitlisted student, I’m hoping for closure as soon as possible
no one wants to wait until August like some students unfortunately have to do. However, what I’ve begun to realize is that it’s not healthy to fixate on it so much, given the tiny chance of getting off as you said. Calling to clarify a question I had has nothing to do with what I “expect.” I wish the best for your nephew and all other waitlisted students!
