UCLA Freshman Class of 2028 Waitlist/Appeals Discussion

Everyone here wants the same thing. It’s frustrating but there’s no reason to get frustrated with other people on this. good luck to you Stacie and also good luck to your nephew.

I have been posting this blog from Rick Clark the last couple of years. Although not directly related to UCLA, his advice about waitlists is spot on along with some added humor.

Thank you!!

Thanks for sharing! I’ll be sure to check it out!

Honestly, my nephew didn’t want to opt in the waitlist initially. He changed his mind after did research, he will be thrilled if he gets off waitlist, he knows there is very tiny chance, if not admitted, then he has other good options… We will congrat whoever gets off the UCLA waitlist.

Yeah, being on the waitlist is not easy at all! Its definitely draining waiting for all those months.

I’m not frustrated with anyone or anything :grinning:

We need to be real. If we don’t expect it, why we bother to figure out the timelines…

A story posted at Reddit recently, a transfer student is rejected by all UC he applied, so he didn’t bother to check the UCLA portal. Couple days later, he got email reminder for SIR deadline, then he checked his UCLA portal, he’s in!

According to @Stacie233, we’d better not spending time here, a surprising email may be on the way any time.

We canceled the summer vacation plan since my nephew has opted in. We all need sooner closure, so we can plan the next accordingly.

I think ucla moved the deadline to register to June 1st. It is what they said on the uclaadmissions Instagram story on the Q and As

Im assuming that’s for transfers.

Hey Stacie233, great job digging up the two most useful pieces of intel we’ve had in a while as we’re waiting! Appreciate you!

Of course! That’s what the thread is for:)

Good morning, Gumbymom,

Just a quick question, my nephew applied for several UCLA scholarships in Jan., do you know if all scholarships are already awarded?

I appreciate your continuous help!

This is just a guess but I think from the fasfa delays and the chaos going on at ucla right now, it could be looking better for waitlisted students

We really hope so, I think out of state has slightly more chance this year.

All I know is that the Alumni scholarships have been awarded. I have not heard about Regents or other scholarships.

there is a lot of chaos, apparently classes are canceled today. i am not so sure. very conflicted because i loved-loved ucla until recently. peace.

Protests take over at top universities frequently. No protests will be held at community college, Nobody cares. Lol.

According to UCLA student, the protesters are not students, they’re local residents, borrowed UCLA’s fame for the attention and influence.

My eldest son is a freshman there right now and it’s a mix. He knows students who are involved in both the protests and counterprotests. How many outsiders are involved in either group is not clear but there are certainly outsiders in both camps.

He says most students aren’t really worried about safety so long as you stay clear of the quad area where protests are occurring. The protestors are definitely keeping people out of the area and it makes it more inconvenient to get to class but my son said there are ways around. They cancelled classes for today and his midterm for tomorrow was also cancelled.

Not sure how this will affect waitlists as it seems many major Unis are roiled by protests at the moment and they are growing at other UCs and what you’d consider competitors to UCLA.

I hope those who have chosen their schools proactively start declining their other admissions like at UCs. Hopefully that will help move the waitlist despite the Fafsa fiasco. I’ve encouraged other parents to get their kids to start declining once they know where their child is going. My S24 declined UCLA last week - to my chagrin as my wife and I both graduated from UCLA. But hopefully that helps other future Bruins with uncertainty.

We really want to see waitlist movement, the waiting is like slow death. We’re ok with the “rejection”. We need to sign the housing ASAP and spend family time on vacation before school starts. Housing is not guaranteed if signed after May 15th.
