UCLA Freshman Class of 2028 Waitlist/Appeals Discussion

doesnt mean anything. the date to decide for the ucs was pushed to the 15th this year so it might not happen until then.

Some of those other colleges also haven’t pushed their due date back to May 15th, so it makes sense that no waitlists have come out yet for UCLA. Since this is the first year with such circumstances, it’s hard to determine when exactly they would release decisions.

How do you think UCLA would respond to creativity in the supplement. I wrote something quite humorous but still emphasized how much I want to attend UCLA and some great achievements recently. What do you think?

Honestly, people put a lot of weight on what you include in the box, but I’ve seen people put ā€œucla plzzz let me inā€ and get in. But i think it’s a smart idea to include humor in the letter.

Yeah, I’ve seen people put anything from ā€œI would love to go to UCLAā€ to a whole essay about its courses, campus, and their interests, and both sides worked. I’m not really good with humor so I just tried to maintain an enthusiastic and straightforward approach in my waitlist letter.

Same here. I just made it very clear that UCLA was my top choice, and included some programs and courses I would love to take at the college.

Any waitlist movement today?

Haven’t heard anything yet, I doubt there will be anything tomorrow since it is a Sunday.

I guess ucla might not start releasing waitlists till the 15th

UCLA puts emphasis on grades (unlike UC Berkeley).

If the waitlisted had 4.5+UCGPA (at least 4.4 based on my analysis), and self-reported straight A’s for senior years (the ā€œessayā€ on opt-in form is not as important as grades for the waitlisted unless you have significant awards), then you should have really good shot.

What would you consider significant awards? My grades went down but I did receive multiple awards that I listed. Trying to see the probability of this working out for me.

National level competition awards (at least state level), new research article published, new internship, new project done related to your major, new professional certifications… … …

Do you have any of those?

hey everyone. when does ucla usually start releasing waitlist decisions? any idea based on past trends?

Hello! Last year, they began releasing a week before their SIR deadline of May 1. This year, the SIR deadline is May 15, so maybe a week before that…? Only they know when they will start releasing decisions.

Couple days before SIR date in the past, we will see the movement in the week of May 15th for sure.

We want it to be over regardless the outcome, my nephew SIR’ed yesterday. If he gets off waitlist after May 15th, it may be a little late.

Note SIR deadline was May 1 for 2022/2023.

2022: Trickles of admits starting April 30. Waitlist closed on August 19.

2023: Rare waitlist admits on April 21, 2023, April 28, 2023, April 29, April 30. May 6 small wave of admits. More admits May 25, June 16, June 30. Some Denials posted July 15. Rare admit July 29.

If I received a state-wide award after submitting my updated information, can I add it somewhere so it can be considered? Or is it too late now? I just heard back a few days ago

The 1st wave was April 28th last year according to the posts at social media platforms.

someone i know got off the waitlist from ucla a week ago. but she was in a very specialized program, so might be diff.

Which program, if you don’t mind sharing?
