UCLA Freshman Class of 2028 Waitlist/Appeals Discussion

I have a good feeling there will be another wave too, it’s only a matter of time. Hoping your child get’s off the waitlist!

Hi! I’m currently on the UCLA WL as an in state Poli Sci Major. Wondering how the chances are looking for this major & what’s going on with the WL because I’m new to this thread. I read through all the posts, but didn’t see much about Poli Sci. Thanks so much and goodluck to you all

I am also on Poli Sci major WL but I am out of state (OOS). Last Thursday, I read on Reddit that somebody got off the WL for this major, but they were OOS. I am not sure about IS movement for this. Let’s keep our fingers crossed. It’s not over till it’s over!

Can you share where you’re seeing a “huge” number of people posting about waitlist acceptances? I would estimate that there have been 20 or less here in this thread. Most of the volume of posts in the past week or so have been follow-up conversations around those 20 or less actual posts indicating an applicant getting accepted off the waitlist.

There was something like 1,400 admitted off the waitlist last year. What am I missing that you think the waitlist activity to date this year has been significant? Have hundreds of unique people posted on reddit about getting off the waitlist?

It’s a metaphor bro and if you statistically think about it around 15-17 out of the 119 users here have been admitted off the waitlist, which is consistent with last year’s acceptance rate off the waitlist to be just over 10%. Now, 100s of people aren’t posting anything, and all this is suggesting that the yield was down this year, probably meaning there are gonna be other waves as basically every other year of the waitlist. No need to lose hope yet (that’s if you were hopeful at all), but we can’t deny there has been significant movement in the waitlist either.

OK, I thought I had overlooked or missed additional information re: the movement in these past few weeks beyond what I’ve seen anecdotally here in this thread. I’m following along with my son (accepted in March - L&S, in-state), who has a couple of HS friends hoping to make it off the WL (among many, I know).

I think @yeyeyeye16 explained it really well. A large majority of people do not post on these threads about their decision, so the fact that we’ve seen “20 or less” alone (although I have seen many more on reddit and Tik Tok) suggests there is significant movement so far.

That doesn’t matter though. The numbers that matter are how many spots they actually have to offer, and how the waves will respond.

Yes but I mean to be really honest I don’t think HUNDREDS of people have been taken off the waitlist yet either. Ik there’s nothing that suggests they will take off an equal number of people off the waitlist as last year, but Idk just doesn’t feel like this is absolutely bad news/there is no hope. Idk it’s a little weird to explain lol

I think you’re correct here. Since Monday is a holiday, I suspect next IS wave will be Tuesday or Weds next week after the first wave of IS offerees reply to their offer of admission.

I think it might be a few weeks before another, if there is one. Looking at the timeline Gumbymom posted to start this thread there were a few admits prior to the SIR date then a small wave about five days later after the SIR date. The next wave was nearly three weeks later. So if past waves are a guide next week may not come till June.

I think you are right about next wave being couple of weeks. If we get more IS admissions next week, then it may indicate the yield is lower and more people will be getting off waitlist.

Have there been admits from the WL for Physics? We’re OOS and still waiting.

No I definitely agree! I don’t think this is end either

I was looking at that too. But also, as @Gumbymom said, she’s learned not to look at past years to try to predict what will happen this year. Last year, there weren’t such FAFSA complications as well as protests on campus, which may influence how waitlisted students respond to their offer.

You may well be right, but I’m hoping for another IS wave next week.

So You’re Telling Me There’s A Chance? Ya!

Clickbait

Don´t they want to release some waitlists before memorial weekend? It would be more meaningful to get off today.

Maybe more OOS tomorrow since last weeks Thursday/Friday waves will have responded. Praying for your nephew!
