My daughter received a phone call from UCLA Admission Officer about 3 weeks ago asking whether she was still interested in UCLA. She said yes. I thought that meant she would get off the waitlist but so far, she has not. Did anyone also get a call and is still on the waitlist?
Thats so odd, Iāve never heard of an admissions officer from UCLA calling a student⦠is your daughter IS and what major?
OOS and Biology major.
Not sure, but it canāt be a bad sign that they called her⦠only something good IMO. Maybe she will get off in later waves.
any today??/
Nope.
Hopefully another wave first part of next week.
Really hope so. Wonder if there will be a wave this weekend since the 7 days are up for last weeks admits.
Maybe they start another wave this Friday? Since the first engineering wave happened last Friday too
My daughter has until tomorrow to decide (admitted last Thursday from the WL- we are OOS). We visited yesterday and took a formal tour (we have been and she spent 3 weeks on campus a couple of years ago, but we had not taken a tour before). My daughter has decided to turn down her admissions offer, so there is definitely still movement from the WL. UCLA is amazing, and I hope you all get good news soon!
@Gumbymom Hello! So I know the deadline is approaching for last weeks OOS admits, and I was wondering, could the response from that wave influence the likelihood of more waves for IS later on? So for example, if many students from last weeks OOS wave decline their offer, would UCLA simply pull more from the existing OOS pile, or could it move to fill that empty space with the IS pile.
I know u asked GrubbyMom, but I think I know the answer. No, roughly 15-18% of UCLAās class will be designated for out of state students. Since they have released OOS students off of the waitlist, clearly they needed more OOS space filled. Since 85% of the class is designated for in state, only in state students choosing to deny UCLA or the UCLA waitlist spots will impact if/how many IS students will get off of the waitlist.
That makes sense!! Thank you! So then that means that next opportunity for movement for IS would be next week
@songbirds33 explained it well and UCLA will try to maximize the OOS and International admits up to the mandated cap and to meet their enrollment target.
So, even though nothing is certain, the next wave for IS is probably not going to happen anytime this week as the deadline for IS students isnāt till Monday.
If there will be any more waves depends upon:
- How many available spots are available
- Did UCLA send out admits to all available spots or are there more spots yet to filled and they have not admitted all applicants yet?
- How many admitted applicants will accept or decline and how many spots will be left after the SIR deadline.
Each school has their own procedure on how they handle the waitlist so all anyone can do is wait to find out.
Makes sense, thank you! If I were to guess, my answer to your question āDid UCLA send out admits to all available spotsā would be yes, just seeing the huge number of people that have posted
I am rooting for you! You clearly want this so badly! I wish we could give our spot to you. You seem so nice and you want to understand this (crazy) process. Waitlists are agonizing! This is my third kid going through this process (plus one is in law school, so went through it twice!) and I had no idea waitlisting was like this!
Thank you so much! I kid you not⦠not a single night has gone by in the past month that I havenāt had a dream about UCLA haha. Itās a full time job posting on this thread at this point
Props to anyone on a waitlist at any school! Itās not easy and takes so much patience.
@Stacie233- Keep the hope alive. I know itās hard being on the waitlist. Iām also hoping some traction on my childās application too. I am confident there will be another wave of IS admits. They are not done yet. Good luck to everyone on this thread.
