Most of the people who got in on this wave seems to be in state applicants. Hopefully there’s at least one more wave with some OOS as well.
1 Week after you are admitted. May 20th for me.
Thank you for your reply.
Anyone have any tips/advice on the data science major at UCSD vs data science at UCSB? Thanks!
My daughter just committed and paid the SIR. She’d like to withdraw the SIR to UCSB but wanted some confirmation from UCSD that she is in. So far she only got a payment notice. For those accepted admission off the waitlist - did you get any more concrete confirmation of acceptance besides an email that they received $250?
got off from the waitlist yesterday Muir college and molecular and cell biology
UC GPA : 3.92
SAT 1450
instate
for the other people who have gotten in, how long does it take for your acceptance package to arrive since notification of admission?
@mei0603 - I don’t have strong advice, to me it would depend on your interests. UCSB is one of the best schools in spatial science in the nation, so if you are interested in data science as it pertains to the environment, UCSB might be a good fit. The UCSD program is more robust, and it’s in their engineering department. My daughter is going to UCSB for data science and is on the WL for UCSD’s data science program you could infer that UCSD is stronger, but UCSB was her #1 choice so it worked out for her.
Thank you for the advice. That helps. Will share with my son. My son SIR to UCSB for data science and waiting from UCSD (data science) and UCD (computer science). He chose UCSB over UCD pretty easily. But he has a hard time deciding between UCSD and UCSB. Of course SD is still waiting but just wanted to hear others expert ideas/advices
I will be declining my waitlist offer as I got into UCLA and Berkeley so hopefully one of you can have it
Any computer engineering majors get in yet? The wait is killing me ?
Not yet. I hope it works out!
@Gumbymom Historically, how many waves of waitlists for UCSD have there been
Apparently last year there was a small wave that matches up with the small wave yesterday, and a bigger wave next week, it could be completely different due to the covid crisis though
I just got off the waitlist yesterday and I got into the international studies- international business in Warren College. I already committed to UCI and studying business administration. I would love to go to UCSD, but I heard that their IB is not really good since they don’t have a lot of companies recruiting students with this major. Which school offers the better major? I really need advice. Thank you.

@BreadButter33: you cannot really look at historical numbers and waves since this year is so different. They will continue admitting until they meet their enrollment target. Up until a few years ago, UCSD did not utilize a waitlist. All any student can do is hope for the best, get excited about your SIR school and in the end if you are offered a spot, it will be icing on the cake.
My son got off waitlist a few days ago for UCSD. He’s Poli Sci and Applied Math. Also got off waitlist for UCSB about 3 weeks ago. UCSD’s my alma mater, perhaps we’ll have another Triton in the family…or a Gaucho is good too:) Good luck all students!
Do the transferring applicants have an effect on our chances of waitlist? Their SIR deadline is June 1st, so after UCSD hears back from them will they start releasing larger waves of waitlists after June 1st?
Also, do you think more in state students are going to consider the UC schools this year (especially during the current situation), so that is why they are accepting more in state students? I am out of state and would like to attend UCSD regardless since it is the best for my career path.
@mei0603 - It looks like my daughter applied to the same programs & schools and are in the same situation with WL vs. acceptances. She is more interested in applied math vs. computer science now. SB is a better fit for her as we live in a really small town and SD was a bit big for her. I do think SD is doing more in data science research (I work with both UCSD and UCSB) but its a high demand & emerging field.
