@zakhovora: The transfer enrollment and waitlist admits should not affect Freshman enrollment and waitlist admits since transfers are Junior level and will be taking mainly upper division courses and not the pre-req/lower division and GE courses with some overlap.
I was a CC transfer to UCSB and still had to take some GEs and premajor requirements when I got there to fulfill specific campus requirements. The semester to quarter system isn’t a seamless transition.
“Lower-division transfers
Some campuses admit a limited number of transfer students before they reach junior standing. Check for closed majors to learn if a UC campus will accept applications from second bachelor’s degree or limit status applicants.”

@itznatalie: I agree there will be some overlap in courses that Freshman and Junior transfers will take that is why I said “mainly” not “all”. The UC’s have different enrollment targets for Freshman and Transfer admits so each enrollment level should not be significantly impacted by the other. There are plenty of well qualified applicants on both waitlists which could be used to fill in the gaps. I think @zakhovora is worried admitting more transfers off the waitlist will impact the Freshman still waiting to hear.
Good luck to everyone on the waitlist!
Any chance something might come out today since it is June 1st?
Just emailed admissions and was told that the waitlist will be going on “til no later than mid summer.” Good luck everyone, lets ride this wait
Does anybody think there might still be a chance?
In all likelihood the “waves” for freshmen waitlists are over. It appears likely there will continue to be “ripples” as some freshmen commits either accept other offers, some elect to not go with online classes and I do believe there will be a higher than average number of 2nd year students that will choose not to enroll. While I highly doubt the transfer waitlists have anything to do with freshmen waitlists, I’m sure many colleges are unwilling to let their freshmen waitlists go until they determine the status of their 2nd year students. Many 2nd year students still enroll in lower division courses and if the normal 5-6% drop in 2nd years results in a 8-10% drop there could be more room for freshman. Note that this is a guess, but I recall reading some college admission experts talking about this particular phenomenon and how it could play a role in admissions. Remember a 1% drop for in state students is nearly $750K in tuition alone and if there are 3-4% of additional 2nd year students not returning, that could result in millions in lost tuition. I don’t think any schools can finalize their decisions until there is more clarity on fall classes.
Waitlist decisions have already gone out. I received my acceptance letter on May 28 and I accepted my offer the same day. I was accepted as a transfer, majoring in Sociology with a concentration in Social Inequity. Im fully aware that I might have been accepted solely on the fact that my major is non impacted. Majority of the deadlines for accepted waitlisted students have passed including housing contracts, orientation etc.
I would also like to add, there may be a chance for some waitlisted applicants after July 1. This is the deadline for transfers to submit official transcripts. And we all know that not everyone passes their spring semester courses especially under these circumstances of covid 19 and the upheaval of our justice system. STAY POSITIVE!
Are you admitted as a transfer student from the waitlist? May I know when did they release their decision?
Any transfer students have been toke off from the waitlist? Will they let students know if they won’t consider them from the waitlist??
anybody else still waiting?
Yes, still hoping but with really low expectations. Reached out to admissions and they confirmed they will be done with the waitlist by June 15th. There could be one-offs here and there rather than waives, but I think that means the rejections to the waitlist will go out on the 15th. Still keeping fingers crossed for the one-off trickles tho…
Yes I was admitted from the waitlist as a transfer student. I received an email from UCSD to check my portal for updates. This email was sent to me on May 28th. When I checked my portal, I received my letter of acceptance. I then accepted my offer the same day.
i guess thats a rip for us. goodbye dreams
I had a friend ask a UCSD admission officer family friends their plans on continuing the waitlist and they said as of now they are at full capacity, and will probably only remove people from the waitlist if something happens with internationals.
So is it still June 15th that rejections come out?
They never said rejections would come out on June 15th. They just said the waitlist will be done on June 15th, which could mean anything. I’m still hoping.
