So it seems the waives were done with sometime ago and based on comment above and a UCI waitlist post, it seems likely that UC’s may hold on to the waitlist to see if they may need to offset outcomes from the international SIRs in late July/early August. A family friend who works at UCSC said almost all classes except those that need the facilities like labs, etc. will all be online but UC’s are intentionally holding off on making this announcement formally awaiting legislation that frees colleges from lawsuits around covid-19 and in the hopes of minimizing more students backing out of SIRs.
So far have heard from all UCs and Cal Poly SLO this morning (accepted off waitlist) EXCEPT UCSD …
Did anyone hear anything from UCSD? Like @itznatalie , I didn’t get any update from them.
I haven’t heard from UCSD either. I’ve already got into UCLA off the waitlist and am committed there so it isn’t too big a deal to me personally, but it definitely seems annoying that they haven’t said anything especially for people whose top choice is UCSD
I hope you have told UCSD that you can come off their wait list.
Still on waitlist? Like, really UCSD?
lmao they be waiting to see if their precious internationals decide not to come
How long do internationals have to decide?
I haven’t heard of anyone who got a decision today. UCSD why do you do this to us??
As others on this board and elsewhere have also experienced, UCSD did NOT issue any waitlisted messages or even bother to provide an update to students who have been anxiously waiting. Their deadline as indicated was today, June 30.
UCSD…shame on you for not even sending a basic courtesy notification to all the students stressing out hoping to get into your university. If you needed more time, at the very least, you could’ve sent an automated canned email stating such…but you didn’t even bother. Are your waiting student worth so little to you that we are just your backup heap? This was very unprofessional and disrespectful towards your prospective students. Whoever is in charge needs to have their performance assessed. This is BAD.
I could have sworn it used to say “by June 30…” but now when you go to the page https://admissions.ucsd.edu/first-year/application-timeline.html, it now says “By August 1, final decisions will be released to applicants who opt in to the waitlist. There is no appeal process for the waitlist.” Agree, it’s bad they did not have the bare minimum courtesy to let their waitlist know.
I don’t see a reason why UCSD would even be waiting this long. If it’s true that they’re releasing everything by August 1st then that’s just sad. There are people who start going off to college by that time. What’s so special about UCSD that they need to take so long to finalize everything? Are there other UCs still keeping students on their waitlist?
@SophiElliot: The only UC that I have seen officially close their Freshman waitlist is UCD. UCB just sent an email stating that they are still working on waitlist spots through Mid-July but appeals have been rejected and closed.
I believe many UC’s still do not know how much Covid will affect their enrollment numbers and leaving students on the waitlist as long as possible however, for many of the UC’s there has been little to no activity for several weeks.
FINALLY rejected off waitlist. Damn that school for taking so long. Classes are online anyways so it doesnt even matter. Im glad northeastern is in person
just got rejected
Rejected
finally got rejected too. ima still try to transfer tho since i want that CS program ?
Rejected also for business program
Could we say this might be the first waitlist closing? We wait for more confirmations!
I’m confused about how UCSD could have met its enrollment target when the status of international freshmen is still up in the air. UCSD had nearly 20% international students.
