UCSD fall 2020 transfer WAITLIST

@sstudent2020 It is gonna be hybrid. Some classes are only online and some are both online and in-person. The classes that have both options will have less than 50 people, for safety reasons. The classes that will be in-person are mostly labs or other classes that are small enough to be in-person, meaning probably under 10 students.

For the student orgs and clubs, they will probably be online and some clubs have already done Zoom meetings. But, with like the traditional events on campus, they don’t know if those will be online or just canceled. Everything is really in the air at the moment.

Wow, we’re almost done with june :frowning:

@IamherePowah bro I feel you. Hang in there we got this. Last year many people got off in July so don’t lose hope just yet. Plus it’s not like there have been waves and we didn’t get in. Sucks that we are kept in the dark but remember the deadline has to been pushed for a reason.

On July 17, 2019 I got this email from UCSD:
“We wish to inform you that our enrollment goals for the 2019-20 academic year have been met and we are unable to offer you admission from the waitlist.”
I don’t know anyone got off waitlist last year in July, at least no one in engineering majors.

@AR P awh man that sucks. Does UCSD do this to waitlists every year? Do they always have one or no waves for the waitlist?

Honestly I kinda wanna just bug the heck out of admissions, like I know they’ll give you the same response but I mean damn

I got a reply from admissions office saying “waitlist decisions are released on a rolling basis, but you can expect to receive a final decision via email by the end of July at the latest.”

@wannagoback oh god what is that supposed to mean. Does a rolling basis mean that they release decisions to a very few people at a time or does it mean that we still have a chance for another wave?
@colecobutterkisses I wanna bug admissions so bad too! I can’t believe the month of June is almost done and there has been absolutely no wave. Plus the waitlist release on the 28th of May seemed so small. I really thought we would have at least one big wave by now.

Last year they had a big wave and then a couple small ones which were based on declined offers by admitted students from the first wave.
They will send an email and let us know once they meet their numbers.
I think this year, because of Coronavirus, they accepted many students to play safe and make sure they get sufficient students for the fall. And that’s why they did not need a lot of students from the waitlist.
In my opinion. in a couple of weeks from now, they will send an email and inform us that they do not need more students for the next academic year.

I thought the latest would be August? Didn’t someone say that?

When I asked they said they’re thinking about keeping it open until the end of August
Not sure why since it doesn’t seem like they need people
maybe in case something changes and they want to admit more people?

I’ve kind of lost hope at this point, based on the past few years + covid I felt like they’d definitely come through but oh well

I sent a complaint to admissions stating that many of us should not be waiting many months to get rejected. I will send you guys what I sent after I get a reply.

So I emailed admissions stating: First and foremost, I would like to put waitlisted students to your attention. Given the circumstances of this year, many of us, including myself, would like to know if UCSD admissions will even consider waitlisted students to be admitted. There have been rumors that the final decision for waitlisted students will be at the end of August, and would like to confirm that. Several complaints have been issued because of the delay. Second, as preparation for the upcoming quarter, many of the classes will be remote or hybrid. How will this affect waitlisted students? It is becoming more stressful for those who are willing to commit to UCSD but are not offered admission quite yet. Given the circumstances with CDC regulations, it is understandable for admissions to delay the process, however, admission to waitlisted students should not be extended WITHOUT releasing decisions on a rolling basis.

Admissions response:

"Hello,

Thank you for your email. There is no guarantee that UC San Diego will admit from the waitlist; and therefore, if a waitlisted student was offered admission elsewhere, it is recommended to consider other admission offers. All waitlisted students should receive an update on their admission status by no later than early August."

@colecobutterkisses Thank you for taking the time to email them! I just don’t understand that if they are done with waitlist then why hold it off for so long. This just gives me hope for no reason but tbh I will still have hope until the final decisions. This wait is slowly killing me, another whole month of torture.

Thank you for emailing them @colecobutterkisses! I am very confused as to why they would have admitted students from the waitlist prior to the June 1 SIR deadline. Usually schools only do that if they know that they haven’t met their enrollment goals and is an indication that the waitlist may be used more heavily. If they aren’t sure if they’ll admit from the waitlist why have us wait another month? Hopefully we have at least a small wave, good luck to everyone!

Last year I sent them a ton of emails and each time they told me the same thing: there is no guarantee; accept other offers if you have.
They still keep it open because they need to make sure all rooms are occupied for the next academic year.
Some students, currently registered at UCSD, are on other campuses’ waitlists and may change their minds if they get other offers. For instance, I am registered at UCSC but I would cancel it if UCSD accepts me.
That being said, each campus has to make sure to fill 100% of its capacity. That is why they are still waiting for such unexpected instances before rejecting waitlist students.

Exactly!! I had this same thought. I thought them accepting people prior to SIR date meant that there were many people that declined their spot. I was so hopeful too because I remember reading somewhere that the initial decisions they made were before the whole COVID-19 happened so that meant more people from the waitlist were going to get off than ever.

I’m assuming that everyone lost hope? :frowning:

.

Pretty Much. I didn’t get off the UCD waitlist and I’m assuming SD will be the same.
