Yeah I mean if that is the case, I kinda hope classes are all online in the fall- I feel like that would give us a way better chance. I’m so upset I’m aware of the UCLA waitlist though hahaha my friend just got off today in the MORNING on a SATURDAY, meanwhile I’m going crazy over ucsd.
What’s everyone’s plans as of now? I’ve SIRd to UCSB for data science! It’s such a different social vibe than SD which I’m actually not happy about. I like that SD isn’t a party school, and I’d pick it over SB for that reason!
@lalalisa Honesty UCSB is a beautiful school! I would have honestly preferred SB than riverside but I didn’t get accepted there. Regardless at least we’ll be in a UC system!
@101basic im happy with my major there I just don’t think the whole party school/college town vibe is for me haha I’m sure I can just stay out of that though and find my own group there
@colecobutterkisses it is! I feel really lucky to have a really good backup school! Just personally I would have preferred sd more I heard some friends who go to riverside and they absolutely love it and the people there, so I hope you will too!!
So I decided to email admissions again and they replied “For students who opted into the waitlsit, please be advised that UC San Diego does not know at this time whether we will even go to the waitlist. If an applicant was offered admission to another campus, we strongly encourage that applicant to accept that offer of admission. If we are unable to offer admission, you will be notified by email. You can expect to have a final decision by the end of August at the latest.”
I can understand why they are unsure because of the pandemic and everything going on. That means they have extended waitlist decisions from July to the end of August. I think there will be at least a small wave coming.
That sucks even more. If we get admitted around that time (August), it’s going to be a lot more cramming in, finding housing, advisor appointments, etc. Thinking about dropping the wailist since I’m already SIR’d at Davis (though I would choose SD over Davis). Mostly, I just lost hope. I understand why waitlist decisions may be delayed but at the same time it could be very stressful.
I was wondering if there were any waves that came already. I don’t see anyone in this thread confirming that they got in through waitlist and only one comment in another thread saying he got it May 28th which sounds too early to me. If no waves have come then we should expect a big wave soon.
Hi everyone! I’m waitlisted too and I’ve been keeping track of this thread. I wouldn’t be surprised if they didn’t accept anyone from the waitlist because last year they broke the record of the number of applicants ucsd had received and they admitted 10,000 more students that they did in 2017. So we may not get accepted because they over admitted last year and that sucks. I wasn’t accepted anywhere else so my plan is just to continue at my ccc and boost my gpa. I really do hope that eventually there is a wave and we get accepted!
There were a couple of people that did get off the waitlist on the 28th. It didn’t seem like it was a big wave but who knows. Plus this was before the June 1st SIR deadline. I think they might be waiting to see the after-effects of what happens when they release updates on fall 2020 classes. From what I know UCI and UCSC have announced that it will be primarily online.
I think even if they do announce their plans we still won’t hear back until after they see how many freshman are unenrolling. And at this point I feel like they already have an idea since a lot of freshman classes are the ones that are hybrid as of right now online. A lot of upper division classes are online and I think they’re gonna be hesitant on accepting more transfers bc dorms will now be singles and doubles, and they want to keep that for freshman and sophomores instead of guaranteeing transfers housing and hybrid courses. If any of that made sense haha basically I think transfers are screwed this year and even if they do decide to take ppl off the waitlist it won’t be for a little while
