@PPofEngrDr - a question about Math&CS or Stats&CS majors, is it possible for a student admitted to second major choice (into Math or Stats) to request a transfer into Math&CS now? (i.e. an appeal to consider for admission into Math&CS in the fall).
Or it has to be a “change of major” request after a semester or two? Based on their website seems like they have minimum GPA requirements (or minimum 3.67) for transferring into anything related to CS. Any idea on historical success rate for this change of major - how may people wanting to declare Math&CS as the major able to do it. TIA.
@hs2020kid as per denied admission FAQ https://admissions.illinois.edu/FAQ/denied-freshman under Appeal section it states “if you’d like to be considered for a program you didn’t list as your first or second choice on the application.” I am not sure if that is applicable to admitted students as well, assume it is, if CS was your first choice that you didn’t get an admission to, Math/Stat & CS, would be a tough sell or even they may not allow it. Best solution is to reach out to advisor.
You already know transfer requirements listed at https://las.illinois.edu/academics/programs/declaring and especially interdepartmental it has email address to reach out. I don’t have any LAS data points one way or the other.
So I was admitted to electrical engineering, but honestly I don’t know if I was admitted because of my application or because they want me to pay the super high oos tuition? What is the acceptence rate of oos?
My son got admitted into Engineering Mechanics, which is his second choice. His first choice is CS for which it was mentioned that he was wait listed. But there was an error in his ACT score, it was reported as 33 where as his score is 35. Can he appeal? 4.03 Weighted GPA, school doesn’t calculate Unweighted.
I just got accepted in:
UIUC (Aerospace Engineering)
UMN (Engineering - CSE) - In-state
Ohio State (Aerospace Engineering).
Still waiting to hear if any of them will give me additional merit scholarship, not too hopeful. I have however also received 4/yr AFROTC scholarship for 18K + some fees + $300 stipend per month to any Public or Private college.
Any advice on the best choice for college. I am not too picky on location just want awesome engineering program and ability to get ROI with the best education possible.
P.S. - Still waiting to hear from GA Tech, UMich and Austin
fyi, any major can do pre-med track as pre-med itself is not a major rather set of classes those one need to fulfill in order to apply to medical school.

DS accepted to chemical engineering. Really wants to go, but would need merit. Does UIUC every give OOS students any merit? Should he keep his hopes up?
