No portal change for us.
@Rubix1 that portal change for us came when we would log in through the update email the college sent out. We have not heard anything yet.
My daughter got her acceptance yesterday, with an offer of financial aid (not sure of the details just the amount). She is OOS, Psychology/Neuroscience.
SAT 1290, UW GPA 3.875 w GPA 4.218. 11 AP classes, most of the rest Honors. Varsity volleyball/club volleyball, NHS, Latin/Science/Social Studies Honor Society. She’s so excited. UMASS is one of her top choices.
Already accepted at University of Kansas and super safe UNC Charlotte, wait listed at UGA with about 7-8 more decisions to come.
My daughter got her acceptance yesterday. We are OOS in NJ. She was offered a spot in the honors college and received Chancellor’s Award merit scholarship of $14,000 per year. Her stats: 4.06 W, 1390 SAT, some AP, some honors. Fencing, marching band, NHS, Girl Scouts, etc.
Was also accepted to UDel honors program. Will have tough decisions ahead!
DD was accepted and is super excited!
English Major
Chancellor’s Award 16k
OOS NY
GPA 4.75 W 3.9 UW
33 ACT
No honors College (disappointed about that but will apply after 1st semester).
It seems that UMASS prefers OOS with lower credentials to grant merit aid to versus in state with higher credentials. That is the trend I see. What do you guys think?
What is amazing is that no one that has reported here has been accepted into the business school (that I can see). Question - when did you get the email / portal update? In the late afternoon or varied through the day?
.
That is true for most public state colleges. Even if UMass gives $14k to an OOS student, their net tuition is still well above in-state tuition. Without those scholarships, they will be not competitive at all for OOS with privates and the students’ in state options. In state tuition+fee is $16,784 while OOS is $36,763.
Still waiting here (in state, Isenberg). Four of his friends received acceptances yesterday (in state, Arts & Sciences), but he and the two other friends that applied to the business school are still waiting. Hopefully soon.
In, but NOT admitted into CHC.
Molecular Bio major.
In state. 3.9/4 weighted, tri-sport varsity, lots of APs including Calc BC, 1500SAT.
CHC is harder than it seems, I guess! Oh well, that makes it pretty damn unappealing to go to UMass.
From what I’ve read most merit money from UMass goes to OOS residents to attract the higher payout. The net result is that OOS pays about 10K more than IS on average. So for example if IS is paying 13K out of say 32K OOS is paying 23K out of 46K.
What exactly is the benefit of being accepted into the CHC??
AFAIK the benefits of CHC:
- Better dorm
- Early registration to classes - not sure how critical this is if student is already admitted into the major they wanted - but can be slightly advantageous to some.
- Special honors classes with small class size - note that these are not the required classes - these maybe mostly inter-disciplinary courses. Required class size is still same as all other students.
- any other ??
Disclaimer: above is my interpretation of reading about CHC - any other opinions?
DD accepted with Chancellor’s Scholarship ($14,000). Not accepted to Honors. OOS. 93.93 average. 30 ACT. Many honors and AP classes. Varied extracurricular (dance, school clubs, work experience and consistent community service). Loves UMass!Good luck to all.
I was told that if one graduated from within the Honors College at a College/University that it was a very helpful thing if one wanted to go on to Grad school as well (helpful towards Admissions). This statement was from the head of Arts and Sciences at another school. She at one time had been a Dean of Admissions at a graduate school in the Boston area so she had the cred to back up the statement.
Still waiting here. DS applied to Soc/Behavioral Sciences for Legal Studies major, OOS, 1330 SAT, 3.5 GPA in mostly honors/AP classes. 4’s and 5’s on all AP exams, 3 season athlete XC/track as well as captain Sr. year. It’s in his top 3, so lots of anxious stress in our house right now!
It’s crazy to think how much pressure these kids are under… my own is a wreck of anxiety right now… 1480, 4.3 weighted, for CS… and we haven’t heard back yet
Anyone receive their full financial aid package? If so, where did you find it. Thanks!
Financial aid package will come 2 weeks after acceptance letter.
