UMich SMTD Decisions Class of '28

You make a friend account (link to do that is in portal)- the friend account is the only way to access Wolverine access links as an admitted student (before enrolling)

When I tried to make a friend account, it said I didn’t have access to that section. Can you screenshot the place where you were able to make the friend account?

My son did it for me.
He was logged into his enrollment connect portal- if you click on the “view” tab under “application “ it’s 2nd from the bottom with a link for instructions

I had him set it up because there were some sections in the parents of admitted students link that I could only access using wolverine access.

Hope that helps!!

Seems you can’t set one up once you have an admissions decision so its too late alas

We set ours up after his admission decision!
He was admitted 3/8 and we set it up last week…

Ah not sure then - it says its not possible post admission decisions when i try

So weird!
Did you go in through his portal? It seems like there are a lot of things under the next steps for admitted students that require wolverine access – and there were a couple of parent things that I couldn’t read unless I had the Wolverine access also. Seems weird that they would limit your access to that information before officially enrolling… hmmmm

Also, wondering if maybe it’s not through a friend account, but through some sort of wolverine access, he set up once he was admitted? I just have his info auto filled on my laptop, so I’m wondering if once he was admitted, there was some sort of a link to set up wolverine access for himself, and that’s why I am able to see things?

I don’t know - i think i will message them and ask re merit news

Ok i just asked admissions about merit news - scholarships from SMTD usually come out within two weeks of being admitted; so as D24 was admitted on the 7th we are past the two weeks now :frowning: also they sent me the link to check eligibility - merit is need informed which is not the same everywhere of course

I called yesterday asking about the scholarship button posted earlier over the weekend. The person I talked to had no idea about that button, but assured that scholarship info should be out by the 1st. She also mentioned that the scholarships from different departments within smtd could be released over a course of a few days. When I clicked on the friend account link, it says access denied.

Oh dear well hopefully your person was more correct than mine!

Strange that we got totally different responses though…

Yes …guess we will know soon enough just keen to start planning for any visits

communication attempts to UMich and the responses received did not make happy experience for my son last year, even with SMTD and the studio being very supportive. Everything did work out eventually though. A lot of patience and clarification was needed.

But I don’t think the 2 weeks comment means anything! It’s been more than two weeks for us too- My son has not received any emails about this yet, and he has nothing on his portal. The only reason I saw this was because I was using Wolverine access and went to financial aid. So maybe check out the Wolverine access situation With your kid after school today and maybe you will see some thing there!
It’s definitely unnecessarily confusing! And I think the endless waiting for merit makes it more frustrating!

Ok- update:

It is through my son’s Wolverine access (set up sent to him in an email)

Once kid is logged into wolverine access, they scroll down to the bottom and click on “new and prospective student business” then click on “new and prospective student center”
The financial aid links are on the next page- saw merit info under “award summary” and “accept/decline financial aid”

Now to figure out how to “negotiate” aid…

Hope this helps!

And sorry for any confusion!

Thank you for this thread! I was a business student (elsewhere) and not familiar with how music studios work but this has been a big education for me, as I guide my son through the various mazes. My son was accepted into the SMTD but we too are awaiting any scholarship info. I will have him look at the portal today and keep an eye on it and report back here. My son was also accepted at Oberlin and we do have their offer - generous but still “yikes!” on the overall price tag.

Son just got email about Merit- same as what we saw in his Wolverine access yesterday- and not as much as we need :grimacing:

Are you sure what you are seeing is the merit aid? My son just received an email as well, but it’s from financial aid with an estimate of the grant amount he will receive from the university based on css.
