This is the official discussion thread for UNC Chapel Hill Class of 2028 RD applicants. Ask your questions and connect with fellow applicants.
Hello all - my husband and I (addressed to parents) received a physical letter in the mail from the admissions office ‘expressing gratitude for (our son’s) decision to apply to UNC.’ It goes on to say they are reviewing applications and consider all students individually and comprehensively. It seems like a form letter - the signature is computer generated from the Associate Provost. I am wondering if others are getting this letter?
We got it
Just came here to check if anyone got it as well. We are OOS non-alum/legacy so I thought it was interesting and strange. It just seemed like a thanks for applying but for the parents?!
It sounds like that letter is very similar to one sent to EA parents in December. We took it as a nice follow-up and thanks for applying. D24 was accepted EA. Others who reported receiving it had mixed results.
Oh good to hear! Sounds like its really just an acknowledgement of application. March is a really long month
Yes, same as the EA round, I was admittedly unsure of its purpose if not to consider it an ‘unlikely letter’ however I was 100% wrong to assume that as D24 was in fact accepted after receiving it.
To me, it’s telling how nerve racking this whole process is now — we tend to be prone to trying to figure out any clue, hint, underlying message, etc. With students applying to 10-20 schools in many places, I can only imagine how the domino effect will shake out changes in status for deferrals and waitlist students. No one needs to lose all hope for nearly anything.
In the past, when did UNC release decisions?
Looking at EA past release dates, people said the last Wednesday or Friday of January, so assuming that pattern sticks for RD, 27th or 29th? Website also says March 31.
Has UNC pushed their enrollment deadline back, or are they still May 1?
No clue.
UNC’s website says May 1.
We got that letter during EA round…just before we got rejected. From what I could tell, it meant nothing - just a mass mailing.
We received this letter EA as well. My daughter (OOS) was accepted. A lot of people speculated it meant a rejection was coming, that was not the case. Best of luck to your son.
When is RD coming out
Probably last few days of march
Could results be released today?
Why?
Decision is out
