Univ Delaware: What R U Thinking?

New York Times is on it.

[U</a>. of Delaware, Citing Computer Glitch, Rescinds 61 Acceptances - NYTimes.com](U. of Delaware, Citing Computer Glitch, Rescinds 61 Acceptances - The New York Times)

Rodney???

Mhc48, I don’t think it is the same thing at all. To be told you are accepted when you are not is hurtful. I am very disappointed with UD. I wish there were some consequence when a school screws up like this. This and the financial aid awards are crucial. There should be zero mistakes and the school should eat any that are unless they are the result of a prank or malice.

My daughter applied, her Blue Hen page says decision to be mailed. It has always said this. We still don’t have a letter in the mail. One of her friends got their decision on Monday- not sure if this was by mail. One girl blasted on Facebook she got in Sunday night which makes me wonder if she’s one of the 65 not admitted. UD told me they were sending the letters out in waves and my DD could get her letter as late as middle of next week. She did apply in time to be considered for Honors program. Does anyone know if those letters have gone out. Don’t know what to think!

I’m so sorry for the disappointment students must have felt when finding that their acceptance to UD was an error. I’m and editor for UD’s student newspaper and I’m looking to speak with students who unfortunately had this happen to them. If you would be willing to speak about your experience, please send me a private message to coordinate.

cptofthehouse, I only meant that a computer glitch reporting a mistake on acceptance or denial was the same. That it could and has happened before. Earlier posts were incredulous that it could happen. I did not mean to imply in any way that the effect on a student or that student’s parents was the same. It isn’t at all.

Does anyone else out there think that we should get our application fees refunded (especially if our kids did not get in at all)?

Maybe they’ll send u guys discontinued Blue Hen Sweat shirts? I think the refund is the least they can do. Right now it seems like they really haven’t done anything? Do we know If they’ve done ANYTHING for ANYONE?
Imainicollege was on the record that her kid wasn’t interested in Delaware a while back, so with her this glitch thing is a matter of “principle” she also has an interesting job that makes her take an interest in this stuff. But Udel, Bluemomo, weren’t there like 7 CC members from the glitch 12? ANyone get that “resolution” that UD posted about? If not, a refund of the hefty $$$$$$ app fee is mandatory. AT this point most families wouldn’t send their glitch kidz there and would prefer the $$$$$$$

^^likelyhood: No, I’m not a NYTimes spy but I’m glad they picked this up…now on to the Today Show…

I know that it was terrible that your sons and daughters got an “in” and it was quickly taken away, but heres another side.

Penn State had the same problem on a much bigger scale for this incoming freshman year. I believe it was 400(?) kids got a yes when it was suppose to be a no. It could be why my kid got a no from Penn State, it was the last school we thought that a rejection would come from. What if Delaware didn’t correct their big mistake, would my kid be rejected because he didn’t get his decision yet?

This is a no win situation here, I’m sure Del feels bad and is embarrassed by the situation. A few years ago the same thing happened with Yale. It’s heart breaking to those who thought they got in, but you just have to move on. When your kids are happy next year, this will all but be forgotten. Some might even say it was a good thing.

lbridge: the Delaware message went out to 24,000 applicants…

oooo, now that’s a biggie… I thought at first I read it went out to about 65+ students

lbridge- only 61 saw it because only 61 signed on to see it. 24000 did not experience this problem

RE : Refund of Application Fee

We had a big time consuming problem with submitting application to another big state U. Application was submitted, fee paid then we rec’d a part II. “BTW now submit your hs course work & grades”. I was livid with the amount of time (+2+ hours) spent entering grades into the system and it would not work, as well as their was plenty of misinformation when we called for assistance.

I sent a heated letter to admissions requesting a refund and D was witdrawing her application. BIG Surprise- they agreed & returned the fee!

Good luck to all you disgruntled, mistreated applicants.

OMG…I haven’t read ANY of your posts…But SOMEONE applied to RUTGERS no? I know of what I speak (if you’re not talking Rutgers…you could be) OMG, a dime for every time I had to explain " I don’t KNOW why you have to send a transcript AND write it all manually after the fact…you just have to." It’s like requiring SAT 2’s or 3 or 4 essays…maybe they think it shakes out the “feign of heart?”

Finally got the letter. DD denied. For those who said she doesn’t deserve admission because of this glitch, her stats were higher than those admitted in state, but we are OOS, so held to a higher standard. She would have done fine at Udel and not “tarnished” anyone’s admission, as was implied. They shuld have taken the high road and admitted these 61 students. It wouldn’t have overburdened anything, as many of those admitted OOS will go elsewhere.

Anyway, she is on to her second choice school, (go Hawks!) with a nice scholarship, has sent in her deposit, and has moved past this. Good luck to all. Wherever you go, you will thrive, and this will be a story you can pass onto your children when they are applying to college. Dkitty signing off the Udel pages…

Sorry to hear that, dktty21. Happy to hear about #2 and some $$s! Best wishes to your daughter on a great college career!

Son got into Syracuse…BITE ME U del
