University of Delaware Early Action for Fall 2024 Admissions

New email from UDel.

Timeline for Admitted Students:

Mid-March: Merit aid released
Due to additional delays, notices about merit aid have yet to be sent to admitted students. We expect to deliver merit aid packages by mid-March, if not sooner. Once finalized, merit offer letters will be mailed to you and will be available on your student portal…

Mid-April: Full financial aid package released
Due to the Department of Education’s changes to the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), the delivery of financial information has been delayed to all colleges and universities,…our target is to deliver full financial aid packages to families by mid-April.

Feb. 24, March 9, April 13: Decision Days, admitted student open houses
…During Decision Days, you’ll learn more about your next steps, get your questions answered by faculty and staff in your major, hear from current Blue Hens about campus life and meet other students admitted to UD….
**May 1: Deposit deadline for UD
By submitting your deposit on your student portal, you will secure your spot in UD’s Class of 2028 and begin to prepare to come to campus in the fall. With the delays in releasing financial aid, we know that the time you have to decide on a college is shorter than expected….

Once you’ve committed to UD:

May 15: Housing deadline
…Once you submit your deposit, you can fill out your roommate survey and be matched with a fellow Blue Hen (students can also request a particular roommate if they wish).

Wisconsin pushed their decision date back to 5/15. Bet Delaware will too

Curious - Did this email come to the student or the parent? Neither my daughter or I seem to have gotten it.

We didn’t either

Student email

Did any other student have the decision release date change on their portal? My son was admitted in November, but he just checked his portal for the heck of it after getting that email, and he says his decision date now shows February 21st.

I wonder if they will be able to hold to May 1. The UCs, Cal States, Virginia Tech, and some or all of the SUNY schools have moved their deadlines. I don’t have high hopes that FAFSA will be ready next month. Based on our many problems, it is still has a lot of bugs.

Same with my D. Hoping it may mean honors is coming 2/21, that happened to others here previously

My son is a very solid student, and he has amazing extracurriculars. but his GPA is just shy of the middle 50th percentile for honors, and his SAT score is almost at the bottom of it.

Hmmmm not sure then? Can’t be a merit update, too soon. I’m curious!

My sons decision date was updated to February 21 as well.

Ack the plot thickens. Maybe everyone’s was. Darn.

No change to the portal for my S24.

My understanding is that they make very few honors college offers, because have an extremely small number of available spots. I don’t think it’s going to happen for my son. Still hoping merit comes through for him.

Does anyone have any information on what to expect during Distinguished Scholars Weekend? Previous threads seem to indicate an interview of some sort, but not much more than that…

He has the Feb 21 decision date! As do several students on the UD Parents FB group. Good luck to all your students.

Good luck! My son expects a polite rejection from honors, lol. He heard on some virtual info session that spots are crazy limited so they focus a lot on stats. But you never know. He’s not stressed about it since (unlike colleges) employers don’t care if you’re in honors. But the perks, extra challenges, and smaller community aspects would be really nice.

That said, he’s getting pretty darned itchy about merit.

On the page “About Honors” it says that there have been around 600 spots for the last 5-10 years. From the NCES College Navigator site, UDel admitted about 26,000 last year and about 5,000 enrolled. That suggests Honors is about 12% of enrolled.

Is that right?? Anyone have better numbers?

That’s suggests a lot of honors offers are not used - do they re-offer like a waitlist?

I never heard of a waitlist, but for many years the honors dorm has been over capacity.

I imagine its a lot like regular admissions math. They extend a certain amount of offers knowing their yield will produce about the right number of admitted HC students. Honors College being about top 10% of class (of those who checked the box and accepted HC) seems reasonable.
