Congrats to those that got in. I’m ok with the rejection because I have great options but confused bc my EC’s, rigor, grades and scores are higher than kids that got in at my school.
@Melissa96 son got admitted and is thrilled, but the letter does not say which school/major. He is interested in Business. I should probably know this, but how does the major assignment work at UF ?
He can do any major he wants in any college. The only exception is music majors that require an audition.
does that also include engineering?
I cannot speak to UF. However, a nearly identical question was asked in the comments of the UGA Admissions blog after their EA release. The parent stated AP/DE classes weren’t offered in their homeschool curriculum, so they couldn’t take them. Graves indicated that, in the state of GA, AP and DE courses are available for free via a virtual program to all students. I only share because it’s a perspective I hadn’t thought of. You may want to look into state-provided AP/DE options for your younger children if they aren’t available in you co-op.
When do we hear on the grandparent waiver?
Yes, every major except the performing arts.
This is just another thing I love about UF. It really meets students where they are. My DS knows he wants to major in a STEM field but is unsure about biology or engineering at this point. This really allows him to gain exposure his freshman year to different subjects and advising before he decides for sure. We are so happy he was admitted to this great school!!
We were rejected. We didn’t expect admissions since we were OOS but I just read about Grandparents waiver. I did not realize that we had this option since her grandparents live in Florida. I wonder whether it would have made a difference. Can you apply for this waiver at anytime. We have other Florida schools we applied to can we still submit this waiver since decisions did not get released yet.
He picks his major during preview prep but can change it anytime. He’ll meet with an advisor and start taking tracking courses. Whether or not he stays in the major depends on keeping up with the tracking courses and GPA.
I don’t think it makes any difference in admissions. I’m assuming you can still apply if you’re eligible. I’d search the specific school and Grandparent waiver to find the forms you need to fill out. It’s done on a first come first serve basis on when the Grandparent waiver application is submitted, so you would be far down the list at this point, but you never know. Here’s some info pulled from U of FL : Eligibility Requirements for the Grandparent Waiver
- The student must have a grandparent who has a legal relationship to a student’s parent as the natural or adopted parent or legal guardian of the student’s parent.
- The grandparent must be a legal resident of Florida as defined in Florida Statue Section 1009.21.
- Submit a freshman application as a full-time undergraduate student for the summer or fall term immediately following high school graduation.
- Have an SAT combined score (or ACT/CLT equivalent) no lower than the 89th national percentile.
Good luck!
The first round will go out in a week or so.
UF gives out more waivers than any other school so definitely apply it elsewhere.
Interesting. How does that work? My daughter was accepted OOS yesterday. She chose to apply to UF because of its strength in her desired major. She’s been 100% focused on one major since 5th grade.
@melissa96 Hi from grateful parents of a future gator! Question: When we signed up for housing got our Nov4 date. It was for fall/spring. DD got in for summer; how do we sign up for summer 25 housing without losing November place in housing priority? Do I need to call housing? Thank you!
Housing will get the information she is updated to Summer so she will be able to choose that also.
DD got deferred and is extremely heart broken. Excellent student at a Private Prep in Florida. Would it help at all if she wrote a letter of continued interest and include her 2nd qtr grades. She has all A’s and is currently taking 5 APs. UF is her top choice. Has excellent ECs.
No, there isn’t anything additional that she needs to or should do at this time.
What is the percentage of OOS?
Agreed. My son was deferred but he is laser focused on his Major since grade 9. If admissions are not based on major how do they distinguish apps? UF was one of my sons top choice as well.
