University of Florida Early Action for Fall 2025 Admission

UF student body is about 15% out of state. I would imagine that acceptance is no more than 15% for out of state applicants. We are out of state and there is a tracking system for the 3 states around us - it tracks at about a 10% acceptance rate for our area of the country and I believe our area is one of the larger areas that go to UF. In-state has much larger numbers.

Thank you

My son is a sophomore. Data from his admissions year had about 18% OOS (enrolled at beginning of the summer, including international). Not sure percentage of nonresidents admitted (vs enrolled). My memory from last year was that they were expecting between 20 and 25% OOS in the freshman class. I think I have these numbers on slide screenshots from Board of Trustees meeting presentations somewhere. I’ll check if I remember next week.

The BOT did amend its target for OOS students to 25% from 21% last spring/summer. That’s in a strategic plan somewhere and was also discussed in a BOT meeting.

@Melissa96 Can you please clarify something for me? My son is admitted and he listed “mech engineering” as a major on the application. Some schools (for example, Purdue) only admit you to the engineering college, and then you need to apply after Freshman year to actually get the major you want. Is that the same with UF? Or if he accepted, his selected major is guaranteed and not subject to more competition? Thank you!

If he put mechanical engineering then that is what he is starting off as, he’ll be in the right courses to progress towards his degree. To stay in Mechanical he needs to keep up with the tracking classes and requires GPA.

This is helpful as well.

is there a cap to the amount of students in each engineering concentration

Can you (or anyone else) tell me about your son’s (or yours or your daughters) experience so far at UF? My son is looking for a social, fun, collaborative, community. I already know the students are smart and motivated. He’s thinking business/data analytics. He’s not sure about rushing. Will want to play intramurals (played varsity football and basketball (3 years). He has eclectic friends - athletes and more “nerdy types”. He’ll be coming from California. I’m a bit worried about the online classes I keep hearing about. We lived through a way too long Covid lockdown and beyond ridiculous “distance learning” and have NO interest in a schedule full of online classes. Could handle 1, maybe, a semester. Thank you! He’s also considering UGA, South Carolina Honors (if he gets it), and FSU (if he’s admitted). Maybe I should move this to it’s own thread. Mod-let me know. and sorry if i’m breaking any rules.

My son is happy. Studying statistics and sports management. Loves analytics—

He’s generally chosen 1 online class a semester—I think he feels that it helps him with balance. He has two this semester and 4 in person. Came in with the max of AP credits but double majoring across schools does mean different prereqs so he has generally had more than the required number of credits per semester and online can make that easier. I’ve been surprised at how small most of his in-person classes have been. Most 30ish kids.

He seems to have made good friends, both OOS and in-state, got together with roommates over the summer in the NE. He chose not to rush—he certainly goes out but decided the frat scene wasn’t his vibe—but his friends include kids in frats, kids who started and depledged bc it wasn’t their thing, and some like him who never started. He is on a ridiculous number of intramural sports teams (was a serious high school athlete) and does one extracurricular club seriously…plays too much poker…lots of opportunities for that …

It’s a great question–about the online (asynchronous) courses. My second oldest was accepted several years ago and that was a huge reason he did not go. He went to South Carolina–not the honors college–and the in person classes were helpful to him for sure. My current admit loves so much about the idea of going to Florida that he blows off the online thing when I mention it, but it is in the back of my head for sure.

Online classes are a very common misconception about UF. There are a few online classes, but the majority of ones that people say are online have in-person options. For example, my marketing and accounting classes are listed as online, but you are able to go to the in-person session where the lecture is recorded, and interact with the professor, ask questions, etc. Most “online” classes have options like this.

Thank you for this! They sound very similar…especially the too much poker part. ha ha He is strongly considering a career in sports analytics. They sound like the same kid. He’s considering double major in sports management and business.

That is good to know. Just saw a TikTok from one of those college prep accounts advising sending a continued letter of interest and mid year grades. Would it count against you if you did as the deferral letter said there was nothing else you needed to do?

Is the breakdown of the numbers of admitted/deferred/denied in the EA round posted anywhere?

Does anyone know the Grandparent wavier award release date? Does UF let you know after EA or do you need to wait until all the RD kids accept and then they tell you?
