University of Florida Early Action for Fall 2025 Admission

Per above, they’ll start sending the first round out in about a week. I wondering the same thing about RD, but since it’s first come first served based on when you submit the waiver application, RD applicants (in general) would be in line after EA applicants.

Last year, my son was accepted to UF, UGA, FSU honors, and South Carolina Honors. He chose SC Honors largely due to the small, in person classes. He is a business major and has taken Econ 1 & 2, Financial Accounting, Managerial Accounting, and Business Stat all in honors classes capped at 20 students. It has been an amazing academic experience. You are welcome to send me a DM

I would like to know this too.

It specifically states in the deferral letter not to send anything. So I think my daughter will follow those instructions and not send anything despite what social media is saying. Other deferrals my daughter received specifically said to update with mid year grades and new achievements. Each university seems to have their own process. I wish UF also allowed this because I feel RD students had more time to update their grades and activities list. It would seem only fair to try to enhance your app if there were any recent developments.

I had a son who was Mech Eng at UF. There were no caps. How do they keep the Engineering school from being overloaded? Engineering is the most “transferred out of” major across the country, and UF is no exception. Calc 3 and Physics with Calculus serve as “weed out” classes. My son told me the class average in both were right at the B/C borderline. This means that half of those kids, who were likely straight A students (or close to it) in high school, had to go home at the end of the semester and tell their parents that they got a C, D or F in one of those courses (or both).

We hear a lot about grade inflation in high school because kids are given second & third chances on assignments, extra time on tests, open book tests, etc. For kids like that, this is where college gets very real.

@Zrt42 you said that your son was Mech Eng. Can you please share his experience with getting internships / co-ops? Was there enough companies recruiting that you can get an internship without too much competition? Is internship something that most kids can get
or was it only available to the top 10-20% of Mech Eng students, for example. What’s the earliest term the student can do intern? Thank you!

Another question. How does Housing work? We have paid the deposit and submitted the housing app. It looks like later this week there is a housing agreement. Do we need to do that ASAP? Does S25 need to commit and pay the enrollment deposit first? How about roommates? Do they just match students or do students find a roommate somehow? Any info on the different dorms is appreciated. Thank you.

Only submit the housing agreement if the student is for sure attending UF.

Thank you for this explanation! Am I correct then that there is no reason to rush to complete the Student Housing Agreement that will be coming this week? (My daughter is interested in the OOS LLC. She submitted her Residence Hall Application and paid the $25 deposit on Nov 5.)

Yes. There is no reason to rush, the priority was set by the $25 payment.

I understand admitted student day hasn’t been announced yet, I’m assuming sometime in March and April (for planning purpose). Looking forward to visit the campus. Also, when does preview (freshmen orientation) take place?

It starts in May and goes into July.

@Melissa96 First off, thank you for taking the time to answer everyone’s questions. My son was deferred and I am wondering how the grandparent waiver works for this. I know it is on a first come, first serve basis. Does this mean that if he would have been admitted EA and would have gotten the grandparent waiver that they reserve the grandparent waiver for him if he eventually gets in RD and if he doesn’t, then they release it to the next person? Or would he only get it if there are any waivers left if he were to get admitted on March 14th?

Yes, we give out everything possible until the waivers are gone - then as students decline admission or the state gives us more waivers we start awarding to the next students on the list

The Admitted Student events are live now. You can get to them through the Gator Portal including Florida Days.

@Melissa96 So if he is first on the list, but was deferred, do they hold it for him in case he gets in?

@Melissa96 I echo everyone else’s thanks for responding to so many questions and your very helpful info. Our student was recently deferred by UF, and based on the deferral letter it seems pretty clear that UF does not want to receive a letter of continued interest or mid-year grades. Is this a correct interpretation of the deferral letter? Thanks in advance!

Yes, Melissa responded to me asking such on the RD form.

Melissa, thank you for patiently answering everyone’s questions. My OOS daughter is thrilled to be a baby gator this fall! Now waiting to see if she’s one of the lucky few to receive a grandparent waiver. She submitted her form and documents in August.
