University of Florida Early Action for Fall 2025 Admission

I can’t answer all the elements of your question. I can only speak to my son. He was a high GPA kid (over 3.9 at UF), and with a little hustle (nothing crazy) had no problem getting an internship.

Check the portal now. The waiver status was updated for us today, nothing was sent in the email, so you need to check the portal. Ours says “waitlisted” and my son applied in mid-October.

Thanks for posting this. Waitlist here also and not surprised as he didn’t apply until the end of September.

@Melissa96 - can you please share what exactly happens during Florida Days? What is extra versus just signing up for a campus tour, housing and department tour?

FYI no idea how it will go this year bc it gets more popular every year, but two years ago a classmate of my kid’s was waitlisted at acceptance but got the waiver before she had to commit; she had applied in October. My kid applied at the very last day and immediately put in the waiver materials, but that was early-mid November. He did get the waiver, but not until the Monday the first week in May after people had to commit (basically that was when a bunch became available because early appliers who qualified committed elsewhere). So he committed not knowing whether he would get the waiver; he had a merit OOS tuition waiver for a small part of tuition, but the grandparent waiver was more valuable and they switched them out when he got the grandparent – you don’t get to stack.

Thank you! Ours says approved!

Congratulations! May I ask when you submitted the waiver? Just trying to gauge where we may be in the waitlist.

Any idea when merit award notifications for admitted OOS are expected?

We may have been the first one. LOL! We submitted application 8/1 BUT UF doesn’t give portal access right away so we got portal acccess 8/26 (this was the earliest they gave access to anyone) and requested the waiver. It came the next morning and we submittd it immediately. Maybe more info than you want but I analyze everything!!!

I love the detail! Thank you.

The College Navigator on Insta just stated the Board of Governors set a priority to enroll more out of state students this year.

My son was accepted with Honors and URSP. Does this improve his chances of receiving OOS merit scholarships, or is there little correlation?

DD rejected with 4.8 and 34 ACT, good essays and EC’s. They must flip a coin there are so many people.

Florida Days gives you the chance to learn more about different majors, study abroad, different organizations and Financial Aid through out the day.

Definitely a great student but merit is done by a different committee so different people deciding.

In state or out of state?

Does anyone know how many were rejected or Deferred?

My son logged to the Gator portal and sees 3 options under Admitted student events. Destination UF, Ask a gator and Florida days. Is the campus tour part of the Florida days as well as speaking with representatives from a specific college?

@Melissa96 I’m so happy that I found this message board, in advance of my son’s UF application (for the class of 2030) which will be due roughly 9 months from now. After reading all the negative comments (in particular from the highly qualified In-State students that were deferred or outright rejected) I’m contemplating a daily routine of heavy alcohol consumption to cope with the stress, unless you have a better suggestion. Only kidding… The Admissions Team has a very difficult responsibility of sifting through so many qualified applicants. I do however think that the nod should be given to In-State students if the applicants are more or less of equal caliber. I understand that UF states that it’s a holistic review of qualifications that covers (GPA, Standardized Tests, Extra Curricular Activities, Essays, Etc.), however the benefit of being In-State should also be a major consideration or contribution. Most of the local kids (including my son) have been focused on becoming a GATOR since they were small children. He’s been pushing through the IB program which in the past was essentially a lock to get into UF. This dedication requires me driving him to and from school (approximately a 1.5 hour round trip, twice a day). Furthermore, I’ve been paying taxes in the State of Florida for more than 30 years. Unfortunately, a lot of these posts are very discouraging, because I’m seeing lots of statistical information similar to my son’s situation that have resulted in rejections and deferrals. In prior years, his admission would have more or less been guaranteed. Just venting, but I would appreciate it if you would share my thoughts with the Admission Team. Florida really should adopt an admission model similar to the University of Texas, which will automatically accept the Top 5% of all High School students in Texas. Nonetheless, I will continue to hope that things improve in next years admission cycle. GO GATORS!

It is the top 5% of each high school. At a highly competitive school, some students in the 6-10% range have superior test scores to the students in the 1-5% range of less competitive schools.

Also, popular majors at UT Austin (like business, engineering, computer science and more) still have holistic review. Every year in the UT Austin thread, you will see students with 1500+ SAT scores and high UW GPAs get denied from their desired major.
