Twin boys were accepted!! We are so happy and in shock. Go gators!!
Is honors housing guaranteed? So very proud and excited. OOS with UT as second choice. Hoping for merit because little high for out of state. She wants to be close to grandparents (no they are buying a house in next month so no grandparents tuition possibility) and to her aunt and uncle and cousins but experience an amazing education at a different state. I unfortunately didnāt click the right button so our housing priority date Jan rather that when we paid in November. She wants to do engineering but an avid cello player and some of the clubs and music rooms in Honors Village right up her alley.
D25 is going to be a Gator in Honors!!! Canāt believe itās real.
Accepted! OOS, very happy and surprised. Now, we need to go for a visit to compare with other options. Choices!!
congrats us too. So stinking proud. Going to her favorite ice cream shop tonight to celebrate. (I know it is cold but she is very happy at that place and wants to go⦠love that my kid can still be so happy with an ice cream cone)
Same. Legacy and teaches an on-line class at Florida. Knew neither mattered or was considered but still stings. Was hoping for summer or a deferral worst case. Oh wellā¦rejection is redirection
What percentage of the deferrals were ultimately accepted last year?
This is the first year of early action and the first time they have had a defer
@Melissa96 can you share any insight how homeschool applicants are handled at UF?
My daughter was just rejected from her dream school (my wife and I met at UF) and is obviously disappointed to not even get a deferral. She did public school until 8th grade and then a homeschool co-op for high school. Straight Aās her entire life, 32 ACT (upped to 33 in December but that would have only counted if she was deferred,) and a lot of ECās related to her intended majorā¦elementary education. She got into FSU, Clemson, and Auburn with merit scholarships but UF was her first choice and closest to home.
If you can share any insight on what helps for homeschool kids that would be helpful as she has two younger sisters who will apply in the next few years. For example are test scores even more important and/or is it a must for homeschoolers to take AP/DE classes? Congrats to all who got in - UF is a special place!
Can they give out the grandparent waiver before all the acceptances have been given (meaning March too)? I didnāt know how the first come first serve would work with an EA scenario?
Would love to hear more about this, if you can share? My child was accepted to UF but not to the honors program. As she weighs her various options, I know that access to honors perks (including priority registration) will be a factor. Thanks in advance!
Sure! The main benefit that comes from it is the early registration like you said. That is really a bit helpful for the first year, but after that, is not really needed all that much since priority is based on your class year. I have found that by checking the registration system once or twice a day, I can get every class I want after a week tops. A āhackā is that on the last day of drop/add, waitlists go out the window, so you can just get it whenever a seat pops up.
The big inconvience from my understanding comes from the Academic points and enrichment points that you need to get in order for āhonorsā to appear on the transcript/diploma. This can sometimes require taking extra honors classes (some are very harshly graded and hurt GPA) or doing potentially expensive study abroad to get the points you need. You also get points for doing minors, which causes a lot of people to run out of bright futures (if you have that) since they go over the 120 credit limit.
I know I did not explain very well, and you should research more for sure, but for most people in honors I have talked to, the costs/extra work do not outweigh the marginal at best benefits of having the honors program on your transcript.
And itās still possible to graduate with latin honors without being in the honors program, which is a common misconception. IMO, you should not worry about not being in the honors program. In fact, a fair amount of people drop honors after their first year, and if after the first year your child still wants it, they can apply for lateral admissions in their post-freshman summer. Good luck in your decision making!
Same. Deferred for my son. 1510 SAT/OOS class topper 97%, physics research papers, many ECs. still have some hope. Was informed that deferral in EA not bad but the chances are much lesser. will move on to the other schools where my son got accepted (UT/Purdue).
Rejected - D25 OOS, 3.97 UW, 31 ACT, v good ECs, lots of APs w good scores, really good essays.
But she got into UMich today so sheās feeling good!
I read that the Grandparents waivers are given out first come first serve. Is this based on the application date, or the enrollment date? Do we actually need to pay the $200 enrollment deposit now to get the waiver? Just donāt want to miss on it, if itās based on the enrollment date instead of the date the application was submitted.
Rejected OOS. 35 ACT, tons of APās, multiple very strong ECās. Disappointed. Such a great school!
Congrats. Was the honor info in her acceptance letter or separate?
DD Accepted OOS, Physics, 3.97UW, 1490 SAT, AP Scholar w/Distinction, mostly honors, DE, or AP courses, 3 sport varsity/club athlete and team captain, Pres of 2 clubs, NHS, summer jobs, NASA internship, PhD mentorship, bi-lingual.
Applied to honors but donāt see any mention of honors (or merit). Will that come separate, or does it mean she did not get merit or honors?
Thanks, and congrats to all future Gators!
This is so helpful - thank you!!
Same situation here with higher scores, instate, both parents are alumni, got into UGA Honors and UNC honors and rejected from UF. Donāt understand what happened
