^ YOU GOT PWNED!!! Its like, you lose, there is no way to win right now except to admit defeat! Pwnage.

you got pwned-nizzled or wow, someone got showned up

Dude, that proves nothing. If that was the case, the state would be mandating UF to take more students next year. Instead, UF and FSU are cutting back enrollment (approx 1K student/year each). Try finding something that is more specific to the state of Florida and UF… don’t give me some random article that compares public and private schools! lol hahahahaahaha Try again, you got two more strikes left!

Show me something that says UF is being forced to take more students! That is already proven false because of what I said above… so good luck finding anything!
Try not to pull an all nighter! lol

UF has a large undergrad student body because tuition is so cheap. So they try to pack more student in each class room to increase revenue, not because anyone tells it to! Remember, you got two strikes left!
Also, show me how UF is the one taking the less qualified students in the state… UF has the highest SAT/GPA scores of all 11 schools. lol

UF isn’t like all state universities. The ones getting effected by less qualified applicants are UCF, FIU, FAU, etc…

We admit that UF is the best state school in the state. Thats not the debate. UF is mediocre, we all agree and so does the countries employers. Look at its ranking? Exactly. Lets end this topic

there’s actually nothing wrong with the University of Florida. It’s a decent school, and to my knowledge, the degrees they issue are the same degrees that any OTHER school will issue.

And let me tell the people who really want to attack a Florida school alllll the way from another state.
You people don’t know crap from crayola.
Stick to your own school of choice. Honestly, NO ONE is forcing you to attend UF, and the people I know don’t really get FORCED to apply to UF anyway. We Floridians REALLY REALLY WANT to get into this college.

I for one hope they graciously accept my transfer application, and I do so with pride. I know I’m not going to Harvard, because I got a full state scholarship. I’m staying in Florida to attend school because

1) my family is here. I don’t want to go all the way up the coast to get schooling in a place where I’ve never been before. I got pre accepted to Colgate College, and I actually turned my nose up at it. Why? Because my freaking life support is in this peninsula, and I can always move away when I’m done with school.

2) My state scholarship is GOLDEN. I can pretty much go where I. Why worry about applying for so much financial aid when all I ever want is right there in the state’s hand? They obviously want me to stay here, to improve some of those college graduation rates…

It’s pretty stupid to insult a school because you think your own choice is ‘higher breed’. I’m southern, but I’m intelligent, and I deserve an opinion just like anyone else who likes UF does. It’s not your ideal place? Move on.
The Gator Nation DID get called a public ivy, and they ARE the hardest school to get into down here.

And before I go, and before you get it into your head that I must be living in a little dream world with blinders on, I’m the only person in my graduating highschool class to recieve this full state scholarship, I’m the only person in my family to get to college, and I worked hard to get where I am, researched all the colleges I wanted, and I’ll be damned if I realized how poor the secondary education is around my county. UF means alot to me, and it means more than getting a degree, it’s moving from this farming town and saying ‘hey, I got into this big university! My parents are going to be so proud of me!’ Screw Ivy League. I’ve got my greatness right HERE.

BTW, UCF, USF, and Miami all suck. They’re just smaller excuses for the biggest colleges.

I want construct a beautiful mile high alter for my awesomeness and his Holiness, Noobcake for his super hilarious post. Thx you.

I said Univerisites in florida… you still haven’t proven me wrong. You just came up with some article comparing public and private schools and found a line of text that was a blanket statement to all publics. Find something that is directly related to UF since that was the original topic of discussion. Show me proof that UF has to take in “less-qualified” students from the state of Florida. Strike 2!

Congratulations on your achievements, LobsterDreamer. You should be proud of the school you chose to attend for …your personal reasons. It seems it will be a fit for you.

Now…I think you fell off your high white horse with the last two sentences.

If you look th numbers itself, you can actually see that relative to UVa, it has lower percentage of students in the 700-800 SAT range.

Just like xNYer posted himself.

“Most public colleges must, according to their missions, take less-qualified students.”

Take it for what it is, UF was built with a mission to educate, UF isn’t anything special, stop comparing it to UVa, and inflating it to astronomical heights that are just delusional and unfair.

Relative to UVa? Those numerical comparisons with UVa prove that UF is forced by state law to take “less qualified” students? hahaha… how is that proof of Florida’s Educational Laws? hahaha

All academic institutions are build on a mission to educate! haha you’re not saying anything earth shaking here!! hahaha

I’ll say it again: The only thing that State of Florida public schools are required to do is accept a certain percentage of students from within the state.

Again, with UF and FSU being urged to take in less students, that does the EXACT opposite of what you’re having a very hard time trying to prove! Because the undergrad population will shrink, it means that UF and FSU are taking in LESS students who are “less qualified”. hahaha…

UF will cut 4,000 (12%) undergrads over the next 3 years. The student faculty ratio will improve and the admissions standards should spike to the level of NYU.

“UF University of Florida (UF) Party $47,100.00 $87,900.0
Yale University Ivy League $59,100.00 $126,000.00
Dartmouth College Ivy League $58,000.00 $134,000.00
University of California, Berkeley State $59,900.00 $112,000.00
University of Virginia (UVA) State $52,700.00 $103,000.00
University of Michigan State $52,700.00 $93,000.00”

Did you ever learn ANYTHING about statistics? On the surface, this is a good-even great argument. that is until you normalize salaries for cost of liing regional adjustment. The schools you mention has the Majority of their graduates moving to high income areas. 75+% of UF grads stay in Florida. Normalize the salaries for the regional cost of living and UF does just as well at the schools you reference.

Oh and compared with Wisconsin, a school that is ranked in the low 30’s where most graduates don’t flock to high salary areas, Uf actually edges out in mid career salary. I can’t believe you would just post an un-standardized nimber like that and present it as valid. Oh, wait, USNEWS does the same thing. It keeps the old schools on the West coast and North East appearing that much better.

“And as far as climbing up in the rankings, US News PA scores account for 25% of the actual ranking. In the just released 2009, with Virginia at 4.3 (same as Brown and Dartmouth, for Christ’s sakes!) and UF at 3.6, I doubt that any significant change is going to happen in that direction. After all, PA score is extremely subjective and nothing more than a glorified opinion survey. With all the bad news coming from Florida about faculty leaving, problems recruiting, bigger classes, etc, I believe this will likely reflect eventually on that Peer Assessment score…for the worst.”

Let’s see…other “mediocre” schools with 3.6 peer assessment scores

Boston College
Tuffts university

I can’t remember others now but it seems as if UF is in good company here.

I have yet yo find a well educated person tha does not know Uf…Even in my home country UF is famous…Now for those that keeps calling UF mediocre, i just hope it doens’t take until they are in a decent college or working to see that their line of thought were stupid. i’m not a UF student or pretend to attend there…but i know about it’s accomplishments, and history. So i have a great respect.
As for the budget issue…Most if public universities have the same problem…

[Top State Universities By Salary Potential](Best Public Colleges | Payscale)

Let’s see…take another “mediocre” school like Wisconsin where students don’t tend to flock to high salary areas. UF mid career salary is a virtual tie (slightly better) ith Wisconsin. Now let’s look at Michigan- Adjusting for Michigan’s high income “flockers”, Wisconsin and Michigan mid career salaries would be about the same, which no one would argue with as Wisconsin is a GREAT school even though subjectively, Michigan is slightly better. Now consider that UF’s salary is slightly better than Wisconsin’s at mid career…is my point getting clear here?. Sorry to the UF haters here, Uf is a great school and due to it’s size and low tuition is under ranked by ~15 slots by US NEWS.

OK, let’s look at SAT/ACT scores:

Wisconsin-
1180-1380
26-30

UF-
1140-1360
25-29

The Wisconsin (ranked 30) and UF student bodies in the aggregate is VERY close in caliber with respect to SAT and ACT scores, the ONLY standardized metrics available.

Subjectively, you can make an argument for UF being mediocre. However, using logical reasoning and analyzing data, UF, it’s resources and most of all, it’s student body is on par with or better than schools ranked from 25 on down.

good God, didn’t anyone here sleep last night?

Will post replies soon.

You have to question the agenda of those that come into a legitimate thread and simply post non constructive comments about a school that by virtually any objective metric is in the top 3% or so of all US public universities. If they wish to define schools like this as “mediocre” or even worse, that is certainly their prerogative. You and I are not going to change that opinion. But I think most people objectively looking at this thread realize they are not posting useful information to the OP’s original question and they my have other reasons for being so negative about a wonderful school. The best thing to do is just not respond, and let this thread die. I suggest to the OP that they research this question elsewhere where there is objective data…further, they may wish to research UF’s new ties with Scripps and Burnham…important information relevant to the OP that…amazingly…. after pages of worthless posts….has not even been mentioned. Time to move on and let this thread die.

“UF means alot to me, and it means more than getting a degree, it’s moving from this farming town…”

LOL. You’re not heading anywhere better …

“BTW, UCF, USF, and Miami all suck. They’re just smaller excuses for the biggest colleges.”

What is that even supposed to mean?? Don’t be hating on Miami.
And isn’t UCF bigger than UF?

We didn’t go into depth on the biomed ties UF has but someone did mention that UF is top-5 in the Milken Institute rankings. Let’s also not forget about UF’s new deal with the Moffitt Cancer center.
