University of Georgia Class of 2028 Official RD Thread

Your profile is similar to my student’s, I had no idea that SAT would be a factor for Terry admissions, I just assumed it would be GPA in core classes. Similar to you, we are OOS, HS GPA is 3.9UW (all honors) and roughly the same SAT as yours. Looking probably at the Management major. UGA was the only undergrad business school DC applied to that did not matriculate as a freshman. Definitely something we need to explore to understand the process better, this does concern me a bit given that it seems first choice major is certainly not a guarantee even with high GPA in prereq classes.

OOS parents with admitted students…we visited yesterday. I loved it, daughter is on the fence and it’s ultimately her decision. I think she felt odd being an OOS admit with 80% of students from GA (she knew it was a high proportion as a Georgia state school, but wonders if she will stand out as the kid from NJ  after seeing the Insta housing page.
I was surprised at how many homeless people we saw Sunday night on the road right across from the gate. No one bothered us but seemed out of place in such a cute town.

I live in metro Atlanta, and I feel like half the people who live here are from NJ, so the in-state students might not be as in-state as she fears :joy: signed, a very rare native Georgian

our daughter is OOS from NJ (freshman) and has not felt that to be an issue at all. she didn’t want to be surrounded by all the same types she grew up with. 20% is still a lot of non-Georgians, plus Atlanta kids are pretty similar to Northeast kids, and the true Southerners have been nothing but nice.

the homeless thing unfortunately is an issue in too many places, especially the warmer ones, I think. we saw that everywhere we went when we looked at schools (LA, NOLA, Florida, Austin…). And it is def very noticeable in NYC, Philly, DC…

Does anyone know if honors has any admitted students visits days separate from dawgs days? Trying to find an opportunity for d24 to learn more about honors college opportunities in depth. Thanks!

Visiting the Morehead Honors College

There isn’t an Honors information session available on the date that I want to visit. What do I do?

You can schedule a visit with a member of the Honors Recruitment Team at Calendly - Morehead Honors College Recruitment Team. For questions or assistance with booking a visit, please email honors@uga.edu or call 706-542-3240.

During my visit to UGA, I would like to sit in on an Honors class. Is that an option?

The Morehead Honors College does not set up individual class visits. More information on available campus visits and tours is available through the UGA Visitors Center.

Do Honors information sessions include a tour?

Honors information sessions do not include a tour. However, you can schedule a tour the same day through the UGA Visitors Center.

Thank you

If I remember correctly, we went to admitted students day and didn’t do anything special for honors- but we did walk into the honors building (Moore Hall, I think) and sat in the honors dorm lobby for a while (Meyers Hall) just to get the vibe. I actually can’t remember if that was during admitted students day or orientation, but makes sense to go check those places out.

Moore Hall is really nice and you get the sense there that they are taking care of the Honors kids. It has an “Ivy-esque” feel to it. It’s worth stopping in and you can prob talk to people there. I think there is a computer lab there which our daughter used at orientation to register for classes.

actually looks like the special honors info sessions are weekly on Fridays.
I don’t think we realized that at the time- this info is a little buried on the website. but honestly my daughter liked UGA even without Honors, and was more interested in seeing the non-honors stuff. Honors was just the icing on the cake for her and validated the feeling she already had, so she didn’t investigate it so much.

Just to give stats for others in the future: our DS was deferred EA, OOS. He was accepted RD with a Classic Scholarship. It was in the acceptance letter.
His stats: 33 ACT, 4.23 UGA gpa, 4.33 Weighted at his school. He is an All State musician, lots of community involvement, other EC’s. I know they say not to do so, but he did write a LOCI and sent it to his admissions counselor. He’ll never know if it mattered, but he feels like it did! He literally keeps jumping up and down with excitement. We are grateful.

There was a comment on the admissions blog about scholarships continuing to be issued through early April. Does anybody have insight into how many more will actually be issued, and what the chances are for getting any of these remaining offers?
We’re OOS, 3.87UW/4.5W, 1380 SAT, Biology Major

My son was recently admitted but he hasn’t received the email yet about housing registration. Have any of the new admits received this yet or does anyone know when it might come out? Thanks

did you pay housing deposit yet? that’s the important part.

Still waiting for the email to pay for housing

are you sure there is a separate email for that?

I think as long as you have. UGA log in and password you can register on the housing website. you don’t to wait on this.

or even better- find a roommate who was admitted EA and signed up months ago, so you get a better pick.

Because of the way UGA prioritizes housing based on the deposit date, I would reach out to Univ Housing immediately. You should have received registration information by now.

If you have any questions, please contact us at housing@uga.edu or 706-542-1421

Anecdotally, we had some issue 3 years ago and had to contact both Housing and IT (Housing gave us the contact information). They were able to resolve within an hour or so. I don’t remember what the problem was as my D handled it.

Another housing question: DS has paid the housing deposit, but hasn’t made a final decision about where he’s going. He filled out the form about housing, and now he’s getting roommate requests and telling them that he’s still undecided. He’ll be a music student if he goes to UGA so would really like to be close to the music school (Myers and that area would be ideal). But he wasn’t auto-admitted to honors and didn’t have any more essays in him so didn’t apply in January (he’ll apply in the fall if he goes and should have a decent shot at getting in). So! The questions finally–how will it work when housing opens up if he doesn’t have a roommate/roommate group? Is he putting himself at a disadvantage? But what if he DOES say yes to one of these requests but doesn’t end up going? won’t he mess that kid up? What are the odds he can get into Myers or somewhere close by if he’s not in honors? Should he be trying to find an honors roommate? That’s a lot of questions. He’s having regrets about not doing the honors app now, but…too late!

It turns out he got the email about housing and student ID on Saturday. It went to his spam mail. I called the housing office and they told me to check it and there it was. Thanks  to all of you for the advice.

I think the culture in Athens invites the homeless issue. We did not see it in other places, like FSU, UF, Auburn or Alabama, in close proximity to the campus.

Is that a good thing or a bad thing? Personally I like the idea of a liberal, bohemian vibe for a college town. Athens is a neat mix of that with Southern conservatism.

Anyway there are homeless in all these places, and others. Athens might be different in that downtown is so close to campus- which is a real plus for many students.
