OOS deferred EA, accepted RD. Does UGA offer merit in RD?

yeah i got 10k a year

Rejected OOS after EA deferred (business/finance). 3.86 UW, 4.5W (I don’t know UGA GPA), 1440 SAT, good ECs and essays (however that can be judged). After EA deferral, he provided senior year first semester mid year grades, which were good course rigor and all A’s, including a college business course.

congrats! please post stats and major, if possible?

congrats! may I ask major?

UGA does not admit by major or use it as a criteria.

These are excellent stats and I’m surprised at the rejection; the only thing I can think of is the rigor and selection of core subjects. Their AO office clearly outlines that they always prioritize core subjects over electives (even if they are related to the major)

International Affairs. Best of luck with the rest of your decisions :crossed_fingers:t2:

thanks for the positive sentiments! I think you’re right - although he had many more honors and DE courses, he only had 8 AP semesters at the time of application, and 10 as of senior mid-year update. He got As in those, but had 4 semesters of Bs, so ballpark guess is a UGA/core GPA of 4.10 or so, which would be on the low range of the 50th percentile range for overall accepted applicants. OOS applicant 50th percentile range probably skews even higher. So we get it… He has a nice offer at Clemson and learned today that he got into UC-San Diego, was a pleasant surprise too. Good choices. Good luck to all of you- we really like UGA and it seems like a great school!

UGA RD Results Survey 2025:

This form is for tracking decision results, so it’s all centralized for future students. If you could fill this out once you get your decision, that would be very appreciated!

You can see all other people’s individual responses in the links above, along with overall form statistics (such as what percent got accepted).

Your kid sounds like my kid! EA deferral, followed by rejection yesterday. I just don’t get it. All I can think is that OOS kidshave to be off the charts in terms of their stats and that they are used to balance the much lower stats of a segment of their in-state admits. Because I’m sorry, not everybody in the state of Georgia is a smart as UGA makes it seem. I know, I’m sitting in my house in the northern Georgia mountains, drinking a cup of coffee thinking about all this. Georgia is my home/- a place that I come to and pay taxes in, but don’t live year-round. It has always been a special place to me and a place that I plan to return to once retired. But this experience leaves a bad taste in my mouth and I’m not sure I’ll ever be able to root for the Bulldogs again, which is sad because I’ve rooted for them my whole life. My son wrote a beautiful letter to his admissions counselor about his connections to this place, and was told that statements such as that, don’t matter at all, but shouldn’t they? I mean, really, if it is a holistic process, shouldn’t they? I don’t think this thing is holistic at all, Especially for kids who are OOS.

i was oos and i got in. I wouldn’t take the uga rejection personally, the one thing i’ve learned from this process is how silly these universities are. I wrote about a movie instead of a book for my supplement and still got in with $ lol.

Yes, with 80% in-state, it likely skews the OOS requirements even higher. State flagships with large in-state draw populations are increasingly difficult for OOS acceptance - e.g. UNC, UVA, UF, UT-Austin, and increasingly UGA and others. Clemson has had an opportunity window- SC population smaller and they take more OOS, and the applicant quality from that large draw is high, which is why the acceptance rates have been plummeting there over recent years too, and why, in theory, Clemson’s reputation should be rising (they are drawing from the country, rather than primarily the state). I have been frustrated with CA over the years (hence my user handle :), but very pleased with OOS experience, and frankly S25 may join his brother at Clemson or elsewhere even though he has an acceptance at UCSD. I wish you and your family the best of luck! Go Tigers though!

My daughter toured the school recently and fell in love! So we were really thrilled when she was accepted because we were 50-50 on if she would especially as an OOS candidate. She has a solid GPA but her SATs were mid. She did write some fabulous essays and has great extracurriculars/leadership.
So the big question…how generous are scholarships for OOS students? She’s gotten some amazing packages from all the other schools she applied to but of course this is the one she loves!

I’m also wondering if additional scholarships will still come out even if we received our estimated financial aid offer already. (Received this morning.)

Per the UGA Admissions Blog, scholarships are being released through early April. If a student has already been awarded a scholarship, they still may receive more… I believe David Graves worded it as a larger scholarship may replace the scholarship previously awarded. You can read the blog and the comments for more details. Best of luck!

Just try not to get hopes up! Most OOS students, even those with really impressive applications, are offered $0 in aid. Although it is true that UGA will continue giving out scholarships into April, the highest awards for OOS students accepted in March are likely to be waivers of half or all of the OOS tuition differential. IOW, the absolute best you can hope for is getting the cost down to in state tuition/room/board.
