Somewhat surprised, as we thought he fit the profile and he wasnāt applying to the super-competitive CS program. Father, Aunt, Uncles are alumni, but they were in-state when they attended.
Itās really getting tough to get in there. My son applied to LAS-economics, OOS, similar stats to your son and was denied as well.
Sorry to hear. Your kid sounds very competitive and talented, and Iām sure heāll have other good options. Not sure if they wanted to see test scores, but otherwise he seemed like a good bet for admission. Where else is he admitted or waiting on? Good luck!
Thanks for the well wishes. Heās been admitted to Northeastern, Santa Clara University, Rutgers-New Brunswick, Univ of Arizona, Cal State LA, Cal State Monterey Bay, SF State, Sonoma State, and deferred at Case Western. Waiting for the UCs, Cal Poly and a few other schools.
Good luck with the UCs and Poly! March will be a busy month.
Does UIUC give out any merit scholarship at all to OOS?
I heard most of OOS scholarships depend on the school, e.g. engineering school may give a few. Correct me if Iām wrong.
OOS merit at UIUC is very hard to come by, but it does exist.
Got an email today that result will be out on March 1st, my kid was Deferred
Got an email that āyour childāsā admission notification is March 1st. And it also says our RD date is set so Iām not sure if itās specific to my son.
Iām reading on some forums that this means a deferred status. But my sonās portal does not show that status. Does anyone know for sure that only deferred students got that email?
3/1 @ 4 pm is the published admission notification date for RD. UIUC does a good job of communicating. I think they were providing clarity to deferred students on when they will have an admission decision.
Thanks but thatās my question: if the portal does not say deferred, how do we know this is only for deferred students. BTW, this is more out of curiosity than anything else. My son did apply to UIUC, but heās almost made up his mind about going to Kelley (DA).
Everyone whose final decision is pending likely got notified. I am RD and I got the email. My deferred friends in my school got it, so donāt think there is anything to read into here - maybe?
Ah! So when folks are saying ādeferredā, they are referring to deferred EA applicants that will hear about their admissions decision at the same time as RD applicants. I misunderstood as ādeferred RD applicantsā which doesnāt make sense. RD can only get admitted, rejected or waitlisted, right?
Any experience with being a chancellorās honors recipient? DS just received email regarding it. Any scholarships associated with it?
Also rejected. MA Public School. 36 ACT, 3.9 unweighted GPA. 6 APs. Weāre chalking it up to a numbers game.
Was going to ask the same question. S24 just got an email about it. There is a $1000 merit scholarship yearly I guess, but I donāt know anything about the program. I thought James Scholars was the honors program at UIUC.
DS was in the Campus Honors Program. He enjoyed the extra classes he could take and especially enjoyed the trip to China. Iām fuzzy concerning the details, but I believe there was a $1K scholarship. I think Chancellor scholars get to register for classes, right after the athletes, so he was pretty much guaranteed the classes he desired. DS graduated in 2019 so things may have changed.
