University of Maryland College Park (UMD) Early Action for Fall 2024

Students do not get to select Dorms. Dorms are assigned based on LLCs like Carillon. I don’t know if that’s a nice dorm or not. Class registration is based on the number of credits a student has, Freshmen register for classes at orientation

Besides a small group and dorm selection, what are the benefits? Also, does anyone know how and when you see if you received any merit for in-state?

Merit awards come out in a few weeks

I m an intl student, something becoz being intl?

Sorry, I know you’re anxious but none of us here can answer that as we’re not UMD AOs. Please call or write to them as I suggested above. Good luck.

Hi, my son is intl student… Not US citizen, not a permanent resident, but goes to US high school… Maybe it is different that way

S24 Got In but L&S and not CS. Positive got Carillon Communities. But reading the information about CS LEP, probably a deal breaker…got into CS so many other places…

If you visit, highly recommend The Hotel on campus. Admissions tours leave from its lobby.
And the hotel has a shuttle to the Metro - so it’s not really necessary to rent a car. We rode the Metro from Reagan Airport to UMd to have a true student experience.

My son is in Carillon. The vast majority of Carillon students are housed in Easton, and a small few are in Hagerstown (I think Hagerstown is more for students who want to room with a non-Carillon friend or who submitted housing very late). Like most of the older dorms, Easton is not exactly glamorous. However, it does have air conditioning, which proved to be extremely helpful during a lengthy hot spell earlier in the year. Easton and Denton are on north campus, along with most freshmen. It’s far from the other side of campus, but absolutely doable.

Carillon does not offer any benefits in terms of class selection. The LLC has various little events and activities, which is nice, although not everyone participates in them. Carillon students also enroll in one Carillon course for the fall (All the options fulfill a gen-ed), and there are several interesting options if you check out the website.

I don’t think Carillon is a make or break LLC, but it’s nice to start in a smaller community, and having guaranteed air conditioning is a major bonus.
