Accepted but not to comp sci, so that’s a no with how they are limiting transfers into comp sci starting in the fall.
All the best to those still waiting!

I think as long as your app was in/complete by 11/1 then you’re okay. My son’s SAT scores didn’t get there until November 8th and he was still considered early action.
Merit scholarships will be announced a few weeks from now.
Correct. You did not get direct admission to comp sci. And there are very limited spots to transfer in starting in the fall. So if you have your heart set on that, you’re going to have to think long and hard about going.
D24 got Spring Admit to Communications LEP
If not in your portal, maybe you missed a deadline?
Call Monday is all you can do.
@jbrumbaugh71 Wow, Communications is an LEP? What other colleges are you looking at?
So if get into UMD L&S instead of Computer Science, are there other major options that would get you to the same point in terms of career options? Ie, computer scientist?
She was accepted at Penn State, UMass, Ohio State, and Fairfield. Still waiting to hear from VT and UConn. She is 99% sure she’s going to PSU. It’s been her first choice all along.
Not quite. CS is CS. I think UMD offers data science - but not sure if it’s a major or minor.
If your kid really wants to do CS, then perhaps consider other schools because transferring into CS later is going to be very challenging.
Yeah, was leaning UDel all along anyway and got Honors College so likely that will be the winner
Closest alternative majors are Information Science, Computer Engineering and Math. Don’t forget that many employers love to train you on the job. I was a Physics and Psychology major and have been writing software for 30 years now. Same for my husband (Physics).
That’s what I said all the way up about CS and LEP. Some one was mad lol
This is the thing with UMD.
All those majors are also LEP lol
Unfortunately 30 years back Software entry to companies was much easier and very different. Now people ask you to take leet code and hacker rank tests then they consider for CS jobs.
But CS major doesn’t matter small or big college college rank doesn’t matter for CS
if the kid is smart he can crack all these leet code and algorithms he can make it to top notch companies
Yep exactly go to another college which had CS. Let them learn CS from beginning dont waste time figuring out
You can get a software development job with many majors, but the majors you mentioned aren’t equivalent in content to CS (my undergrad was CE, masters CS).
Also, I don’t believe it’s easy to transfer into CE - it’s in a different college from where CS is housed.
So would you say CS major at say UDel would be better perceived than say applied math major at UMD for comp scientist/developer prospects? Math is not LEP
I literally work with people who are IT professionals who switched from completely different careers such as Kindergarten teachers! I work for the federal government- they love to take bright people and train them to do exactly what they need. So it is not true that you need a CS degree. It is also not true that Physics and Math are LEPs at UMD. They are not.
DD got accepted into Honors College. Instate. Biology major. 4.0, 4.9+,1580+, NMSF, 13 APs+dual. 4 leadership positions. Varsity player , medical research, hospital volunteering and shadowing. She is pursuing PreMed.
Does anyone know how many get accepted into honors college and how many get nominated for Benneker Key scholarship? What are the criteria?
@SoofDad , will greatly appreciate your response.
Once RD has been completed it may make sense to see if admissions would disclose the number of interested CS students in LS? For this admissions cycle, UMD accepted more as direct admit, but will be taking far fewer internal transfers than in previous years. Perhaps the number of PROSPECTIVE CS majors has decreased? I have no idea. Just a thought.
