Look at the coursework and see what they are like. My son isn’t willing to compromise on CS for another major, but if he were I’d be having him look at the courses/material covered.

D24 applied to Biology major, but accepted into Letters & Sciences. Probably will not attend due to not getting major as will be hard to get into LEP.

  • W 4.0 (Test Optional)
  • 15 IB/AP/Dual Enrollment/Honors Courses (Heavy on science courses)
  • Great EC’s, Varsity Sports, Volunteer, Clubs, Nursing Internship.
  • Great Essay (but of course I think that…I am mom) lol.

Congrats to all accepted! :tada:

For those accepted and planning to enroll: don’t wait to submit your housing agreement asap. It’s $50 non refundable but you don’t need to commit to the university before submitting it, and they state very clearly on their site that housing placements are done by date of submission. In other words, earlier submissions generally will get better dorms. (If you’re enrolling in an LLP, this isn’t as critical since those dorms are pre-set. )

OOS Accepted to Letters & Sciences (Rejected for CS)
Invited to Carillon Communities but no Honors or Scholars
3.97UW/4.37W GPA
1510 SAT
12 APs
Several leadership roles
Strong short answers and LORs

I’m not sure what went wrong… why wasn’t I invited for honors?

Need to check if it is difficult to transfer to Computer Engineering also has space issues like Computer Science

My daughter got the same, psych ( major) and fire invite. Is this same as getting honours program?

No one can now.

But Carillon is an Honor.

Your bigger concern should be not getting into CS.

If that’s truly your goal, you need to look at plan B - a school you can study.

I’ll let you in on one other secret - both my kids are/were in Honors (one since graduated) - different schools - but I’ll say this. Honors is for the student.

I’ve helped both kids and there’s not a single job application where they were able to note it.

So it’s not going to impact you getting a job.

Will it make the school experience different. Yes but so many think you have to be in Honors to be a success. It’s not remotely the case.

But your bigger concern should be your major, not enrichment.

All that said - you got in - many congrats. And Carillon is a great Honor.

Best of luck.

No. FIRE is a research program. Google it.

Lots of useful information here for admitted students and their parents

About 400 students are invited to interview for the B/K scholarships. About 250 get the full B/K and 150 get the partial B/K/

Of the 400, about 150 actually enroll. There is no published criteria.

I have never seen anyone report that happening.

Hi, S24 was accepted to Carillon, I’m still researching to see exactly what it is and came across your response. Can you please tell me what makes it an honor? Thank you

accepted to maryland.
International.
Want to ask when is the deadline of acceptance to FIRE program?

According to the following link, self-nominations do not open until March 15

Any idea if OOS students ever get B/K?
I know many highly accomplished students from our area in NJ that got honors and Presidential scholarship in the past few years and no B/K. All the B/K kids they know on campus are in-state.

I am not aware of anything that restricts the B/K to only In-State students.

The B/K policy document provides a dollar breakdown of how funds are applied and it shows the dollar amounts for both resident and non-resident students

They do. My OOS DD was invited to interview for B/K several years ago.
