University of Maryland College Park (UMD) Early Action for Fall 2024

The first email wave was actually before March 1.

Yeah I noticed that, not too sure, maybe we’ll hear more, maybe we won’t hahaha.

An article says about 36% of UMD students get merit awards. The forum won’t let me post the link. Also, reddit has UMD students posting the stats they got for merit. It seems be a wide range.

It is best to believe the official CDS published by a school. The Fall 2023 CDS shows approximately 22% received merit awards.
The Fall 2022 CDS shows just under 20%.
So 2024 is very likely in that range.

It’s much closer to 20% that get some sort of merit - and that includes athletes and Banneker/Key Scholars.

The 20% includes B/K but not athletes.

I stand corrected - thanks!

Follow up question if you don’t mind - can you see the Carillon placement in the TAP portal somewhere?

I’m not sure. I’ll see if I can get my daughter to check this weekend. Does anyone on here have access to their child’s portal to check whether Carillon sent the assignments through there too?

We got an email.

There were Banneker/Key interviews for this year on Monday 03/04 and today 03/06. Are there any more interview dates for this year ? Thank you.

@STEMX , could you please respond? Thank you

I don’t believe there are - I only saw three dates mentioned, and all three passed as of today (if I am not mistaken, the dates were March 1st, 4th and 6th). Students selected as BK scholars were informed by email and through letter received in mail, and would have had to schedule an interview date before February 19. The interview dates I believe were to determine who would get the full scholarship vs the partial (though there is some debate as to whether that is actually the case), and was guaranteed only to those who showed up on campus for whichever of the dates they chose to attend. As I understand it, all chosen as Banneker Key Scholars (who attended the on campus event dates) will get some financial merit award, but only 150-200 of the 400 selected will get the full ride.

Hope that helps (FYI my DC was selected as a BK semifinalist)

@GVDADABRK2022 , thank you very much. Congratulations to your child. Best of luck. My daughter had the interview on 4th. Anxiously waiting for the finalist decision.

Congrats to you as well - we were also there on the 4th! I believe I heard somewhere that the decision would be out by end of March/April1st

We were also there on the 4th. Lucked out on a beautiful day to see the campus. Looking back at the posts from the past few years (some on Reddit), it looks like the decisions usually come out mid-March, usually on a Friday, despite the ā€œby April 1stā€ language. I wonder how much the interview actually plays in the scholarship level decision? I’ve seen speculation both ways. Clearly the day is primarily to encourage all the finalists to attend UMD. Good luck to all!

Congrats! It was a beautiful day. I agree about the interviews - clearly they want to sell you on coming to Maryland - it’s a great school. I just didn’t get a feel one way or the other as to whether the interviews really have an impact on the final decision. Hoping someone ā€œin the knowā€ may have some feedback here.

Does anyone know if all Freshman Connection students are offered the Carillon Communities LLP? One of the benefits I can see from joining a LLP is that you get to know a smaller group of people within the large University. However, if his LLP has the same students that he’s already in a small group with, this benefit no longer applies. Thank you in advance!

Not sure if anyone has asked yet or not (apologies if have) -

Do we know - given all the folks that said they got $70K - has UMD officially pivoted from $12.5K max to $17.5K or is it the same as prior with some sort of stacking.

It still says this on the website - but given the many comments above - it seems like they’ve gotten more aggressive.

The President’s Scholarship provides four-year scholarship ranging from $2,000 to $12,500 per year.

From what I’ve been told, no. Only a smaller subset of FC students will be invited to Carillon, and they have a specific Carillon cohort/cluster topic set aside for FC students.

From what has been reported on several different platforms, they did raise the max yearly Presidential award this year to $17.5K, but have not yet changed the website wording.
