Not sure why it has not been updated but we know several who received the full 70K including an extended family member.
S24 received an email invitation to join Carillon Communities. Apparently, there is one community, Masculinities & Family Health, specifically reserved for FC students.
My son was awarded the 70k Presidential and it wasnât stacked with any other award. I think they just did not update their website.
does UMD do deferrals or wait-list? Or is it Admitted or rejection only? I think they offer a Spring start⊠any other options for pathway to entry?
Very small waitlist and takes very few. Last year 290 and 0 taken. I donât believe they defer but someone else can answer.

So, change of topic. two questions
My S24 is accepted, Arts & Humanties ARHU, Carillon, OOS, full pay. Third kid, including two prior acceptances to UMd that didnât attend. This one might. So, we have two questions.
@13street and others, can you tell me about accepted students day? Specifically could they spend any time talking with professors either in a Q&A panel or by making seperate appointments?
@DcMdVaMom and others, S24 applied for one of the smaller scholarships for ARHU which are both need and non-need. Anyone have experience with these? how long to hear? Renewable? The website/email says $600-$6000 and some are one year and some four, decisions mid April to early May. Kinda vague
We havenât started looking at the small scholarships yet. But we did find out that all of my daughterâs APs are going to transfer, so sheâs been focusing on her upcoming AP tests. It will essentially shave off an entire year of school. Some of her APs didnât transfer at other schools, so this is good news for us. If you havenât already checked, maybe thatâs another angle to see where you can save some money.
They do not defer, well over 90% of the incoming class is accepted during EA, only a very small percentage of RD applicants are accepted.
If it is helpful at all. Daughter was selected as a BK scholar finalist and had interview set for I believe 3/6 but subsequently with drew her application as to open up a spot for someone who would accept the scholarship. Good luck.
Congrats to your son. From the literature that I read aid and other scholarships are not stackable. Any outside scholarships etc⊠reduce the amount of the BK award. I think this is common for these top scholarships so kids cant get more than cost of attendance.
The due date has passed for some. Depends on the college. Also, I think you can apply later when enrolled in subsequent years.
Thanks for letting me know. Thatâs good to know. Iâll have to let my daughter know. Weâre still waiting on a school, so she hasnât fully committed to UMD yet and has probably been putting the scholarships off because of that.
The Admitted Students Day had a college presentation (CMNS, in our case) and a major presentation (CS, in our case).
The college presentation was by the associate dean for undergraduate education and was a rah-rah affair. The CS presentation was mostly regarding the curriculum, but it was followed by a student panel, which featured some good Q&As.
There were no professors available to speak with. We do not know if there was a possibility to arrange any appointments - we did not try.
Thanks
UMD does not put the scholarship back into the pot to redistribute.
Unless a scholarship is endowed, most likely donât put them back in the pot - they all have breakage built in.
If you got admitted for Spring 2025, is there a possibility that you might get bumped to Fall 2024? Or, is that completely off the table?
You can join [University of Maryland Class of 2028 - Parents] FB group. They have a lot of information. UMD employees also answer in the group frequently.
I havenât heard of that happening, but if you apply, you can start in the fall by doing freshman connection.
Did you or your child get admitted to Spring 2026, because if so, this was a typo. No one was deferred to 2026. You should have received a follow-up email apologizing for the typo.
