My kid ‘27 OOS test optional got 20k music merit and 10k academic merit offer from Maryland. FIRE program offer but not Honors. Was in the top 3 of possible choices, but went elsewhere in the end due to warmer location, honors college offer, and better fit at lowest cost. It’s a fantastic university, but agree that OOS tuition is a lot. Now my ‘29 is trying for Engineering.
Unfortunately not deterring sheer number of applicants.
The LEP programs are an important caveat. UMD - the overall university - may admit first years on a major-blind basis, but many high-demand majors are more competitive than the overall university (CS, engineering, etc.) and applicants can end up being accepted to UMD and not their preferred major/school.
Does anyone know if the Immersive Media Design LEP is hard to get into after the student has enrolled? We thought D25 should apply after she started there but reading all this about LEPs I’m starting to worry we screwed up.
The requirements for internal transfer for Immersive Media Design does not limit # of majors as far as I can tell. Requirements differ slightly for BA or BS, BA requires 3 courses with a C- or above and BS requires 4 courses with B- or above.
Thanks, that’s good to hear. It would be the BA. She’s more on the arty side than computer side.
bcc1, my older son chose UMd because they gave him a decent amount of aid. OSU didnt give him a dime.
Ultimately, he chose UMD over Binghamton, our state school, because he felt that as a business student he would get better internship opportunities. Being in a beautiful new dorm didnt hurt either.
What was the beautiful new dorm?
S25 is not looking at Business schools and they seem to have their own “rules” like CS, Engineering etc. Younger one is interested in Business so that is good to know. I used to recruit at UMD Business school and I was impressed by how prepared the candidates were for the interviews.
Does Maryland rlly come out February 1st or do they release earlier?
People here seem to think it will be 1/31 (tomorrow) around 5pm eastern.
It is almost always the last friday in January which will be tomorrow.
STEMX (fromUMD) already confirmed above that they’re coming out this Friday.
Agreed. The official statement is " UMD’s November 1 early action deadline is non-binding and students who submit a completed application by this date will receive an admission decision by February 1 ."
But they will 100% not release the decisions on a Saturday. So tomorrow (Friday) it is. Best of luck to everyone!
Last year some people had a “Spring Application” tab added to their portal the day before decisions came out. Anyone seeing that? Nothing here
Praying I get in🙏
Did the login before needed .tap but now it doesn’t? My kid remembers adding a .tap for username name but now it says you don’t need it. Do others see that? Is this a bad sign?
No such tab for me either.
same for me
It did need a .tap prior but I haven’t looked yet today.
