Are we still predicting that results will be out tomorrow?
I canât log into my portal with my email alone (no .tap at the end) and I was able to before. However, a couple days ago I was able to log in but I was asked to change my passwordâŠ?
Edit: I had to reset my password entirely, but logging in with email alone works.
Curious as to whether GPA, APâs and SAT/ACT are pretty much all that matters for competitive major admission(CS in our case), or if student activities(internships in area of major, athletics, clubs etc) are considered as well. I have heard stories from both extremes(all top academics not getting in, and mediocre academics with great activities getting in) but not certain of intended majors for those students.
Admissions are holistic, including for competitive majors and honors/scholars programs. Perhaps @STEMX can provide more insight.
(@STEMX - thank you in advance. Apologies for all the tagging but your help is very valuable as itâs a stressful time for all these high schoolers. Your time here is greatly appreciated)
Can log in with and without .tap. From what I see, TAP is only related to the applicant portal (not current students). So while I love some portal astrology, I really donât think this means anything
My son had an account from applying to a summer program already so thatâs probably why he has never used a .tap, we also didnât get an email because of this to âset up the portalâ because we already had a login from the summer program.f
It means nothing.
Based on the people I know with and without tap login, I agree.
I am an international student, i have .tap
My son got great merit at UMass and UVM as well as UMinn
Yes, the likelihood of results coming out on a Saturday is none IMO. Tomorrow (Friday) it is
Best of luck everyone!!
For CS, the classes taken (out of what was offered) esp in math and cs and grades earned is #1, followed by activities/demonstrated interest in the field, with us also considering all other parts of the application, such as reference letters, residency, essay, test scores (if submitted), etc. So yes, holistic like general UMD admission! That said, we get hundreds more well-qualified students than we can accept into the CS major as freshmen.
Also, we ONLY get to review freshmen admitted for fall; if students are admitted for spring, competitive LEPs are not allowed to review them.
appreciate you sharing and giving positive energyâŠmy kid is really nervousâŠbut if they look at her holistically, see the interest she has shown in the field as well as UMD (going to admissions office hours to meet with a counselor as a junior)âŠofficer in girls who codeâŠif they look at her full picture i think she has a shot. fingers crossed.
when do decisions typically get released?
However, you will be able to tell when you see a spike of activity here on this thread
If last year (2024) is an indicator, decisions started to come out on the last Friday of January at 4:45pm EST
Good luck to everybody tomorrow (Jan 31)
Last year, I think Freshman Connection admit decisions seemed to come out first, around 4:30-4:45, then Fall 2024 admits/declines in a second round closer to 5 pm. I remember seeing here posts re: Freshman Connection admits earlier than the Fall 2024 admits, and my son had friends who got in who knew about 15 minutes before he did. His friends who were not admitted found out the same time he did. Not sure if thatâs what really happened, but there did seem to be a lag between the two sets of decisions.
Fingers crossed for her!!! UMD actually does not use demonstrated interest in the school as a factor for admissions.
