Does anyone know how/when School of Music admissions decisions will be released? I was assuming it would be today like the LEP majors, but now I’m wondering whether that’s the case. Thanks!

the other LEP are released today, I would assume Music is as well.

All UMD EA decisions are released together. They don’t split it up by college or major.

Thanks. I figured he’d get a decision today, just wasn’t sure whether the decision would indicate whether he’s been accepted to the School of Music.

The acceptance letter at the bottom has indications of what college they are accepted to. So it will either say the School of Music or Letters and Sciences. If they are in L&S they aren’t admitted into their LEP and would need to pursue a transfer pathway

Hopefully, the decision will come out today. I think they also send out honors/scholar invite.

Good luck to all who apply to UMD.

Is there a separate application for the honors or you just get accepted at the same time with the offer?

You get invited, not accepted, into the honors program. You then have to fill out a short application ranking the honors programs you’re interested in, and explaining why (for each).

I assume there’s already a triage when inviting students for the honors program and then further selection based on their responses? Not everyone being invited is guaranteed right?

If you are accepted into the program you will definitely get a spot in one of the programs as long as you applied, it just may not be your first choice. I think for Honors, for example University Honors is sort of the catch all.

If your student is invited to join honors or scholars, they will rank the top 3-5 (I can’t remember exact number) programs they are interested in with a short narrative explaining their top choice. They will get assigned one of the ones they ranked, it might not be their number one choice though. They can also decline the invitation.

We are bucket 1. Don’t want to remove .tap and then be thrown out of a bucket. Even though we don’t know if that’s a good or bad thing or means anything at all! lol

I want to add some info regarding Honors College assignments. The Honors College has 8 different programs and students specify their top preferences. Some of those 8 have a limited capacity, for example ACES can only accept about 85 new students. A given student will receive their assignment in mid-March.

UMD probably gives Honors College invitations to 3,000 students, maybe more. So not everyone gets an assignment that they wanted and UMD will not know until May 1 how many students will actually enroll. Typically, it’s about 1,000. Thus there is a lot of room for disappointment. University Honors gets the largest number of the new students

so there was no option to apply to honors to date? it is truly invite only?

You can appeal for re-consideration or you can apply at the end of a student’s freshman year. More info is here:
