That is funny, because three years ago my son didn’t get his until after regular admits (he was freshman connection)
Any student can join the honors college through the back door if they do research in a faculty lab (as currently enrolled students) and join departmental honors: Departmental Honors - University of Maryland Honors College

I would add to this though- those who join the Honors College through the departmental honors pathway do not just immediately get all of the same things as those invited to the HC upon acceptance, the main one being the separate housing that is given to those invited to Honors LLPs. Like people in ACES or HGLO live in a specific building with others in their program from their first sem on campus.

Little tidbit about University Honors- because it’s the biggest LLP in the Honors College, yes, a lot of kids get put in it even if it wasn’t their first choice, which may be disappointing. However as a student here I can say that UH kids have the best dorms on campus, hands down. They live in Johnson-Whittle, and its astounding how much cleaner, newer, and well-kept that dorm is.

Did anyone have to change passwords to get into the TAP? Or was that just a coincidence?

And was the portal the same after you changed the password and logged in?
In the login screen - no longer says you need “.tap” - no sure if others are seeing the same.
I didn’t notice any changes.

Everyone is prompted to change their password once from the default. Prompted my daughter last week. Doesn’t mean anything.

Update on time?!!
We had already changed from the default back when the portal account was established. It might just have been a required scheduled update to password for security reasons, on a 60 day cadence. But it is fun to think that it might be portal astrology.
