OOS son accepted Education Major. 1460 SAT, 3.6 UW GPA. Also invited to Carillon but we have no idea what that is.
I think it is important for students and parents to read the following USM Board of Regents Policies
VI. ADMISSION OF OUT-OF-STATE STUDENTS TO UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAMS
Each institution may establish, for out-of-state students, standards that are higher than the undergraduate admission standards for in-state students. If a choice must be made between applicants of roughly comparable ability and promise, preference will be given to the Maryland resident.
Excluding University of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC) students and all students enrolled exclusively in distance education programs, the number of out-of-state undergraduate students in any institution shall not exceed 30 percent of its total undergraduate student body.
It is probably always the same. You can google it. If you know that enrollment is certain along with accepting a spot in Carillon, you can probably wait a bit. Back when my D was accepted, she enrolled and paid the housing deposit (knowing what doem she would be in) in early March
thanks. found that but would love to hear if anyone has any personal experience with it for an older student. my sonās first reaction was āno thanksā
If your child has not received their decision, you or they can call admissions on Monday and they will look into it. Every year, some students fall through the cracks, maybe a transcript or reference letter was not attached to the correct student file. Also, if they checked that they were submitting SAT/ACT scores but did NOT submit them on time, then they are moved to regular decision.
No, it is a research program.
Unfortunately, I have no direct knowledge. Ir is Ok to not be in any these programs
I wasnt there when my son opened the portal so not sure if there was something obvious right away but when I look at it now, there is nothing different except for a box that says āAdmitted Student Checklistā right above his name. I hope you see that!!!
Accepted CS Oos and invited to the FIRE programā anyone know about this program and if its worth the OOS 60k price vs our in state school 20k
D25 accepted OOS. 3.97 uw, TO, 8 APs, v good ECs, great essays/short answers.
Itās yield not acceptance that matters for the 70/30 rule.
If your kid is shy, I would take it. If the dorm has AC, I would take it. You can always drop the LLC if you donāt like it.
Son accepted for Scholars In State/Engineering.
1520 SAT 14 APs 3.98/4.90 GPA
Just realized son was misclassified as OOS
Yield is a yearly number that varies. The 70% rule applies to the entire enrolled undergraduate student body, but this does have an impact on admissions in following years. UMD can raise or lower the number of OOS students admitted, to maintain the 70% rule
I am so happy to hear this. I got in for spring and the only way I would accept is if I could āstart in the fallā aka through Freshman Connections. I do wonder if those kids feel different, not part of the school community in any way at all? Is it something people just know - āhey, that kid is a Freshman Connection studentā? Iād love to hear anyoneās experience with the program, thank you
Well, I personally know some students who were in Freshman Connection, some students who were in the Honors College, all sorts of students.
My Dās best friend was in FC, she actually was assigned to a better Dorm that my D. In fact my D moved to that Dorm in her sophomore year.
I can assure you that NO ONE cares that someone else is in FC. Most freshmen care about one thing most of all⦠THEMSELVES!!
Every one is busy adjusting to a new life and FC ends after your first semester. .
Thank you. Itās that old adage my grandfather used to remind me of, that people are not thinking about us nearly as much as we think they are I am excited to explore this opportunity and appreciate your input.
Me too! Congrats!!
D25 in as well. MechE with honors.
