You can submit your housing deposit now. Housing assignments are based on submission date, Freshman are guranteed housing as long as deposit is recieved by May 1. No rush to deposit if student was accepted to an honors or scholars program since housing location is already determined.
Thank you; that is extremely helpful. My son got notification that he got into his first choice Honors LL program (āDCCā I believe?) which is in Prince Frederick Hall I think. Does this mean thereās no rush for priority date on the submission?
I mean, are rooms ābetterā if you submit sooner, even if the building is determined by LLP?
PFreddy to the best of my knowledge is what Iād consider the best dorms on campus and not a bad room in the bunch. Congrats to your son! No, I would think there is no rush to submit housing deposit.
just to be sure Housing deposit just needs to be submitted by May 1 right?
yes
Congrats! My daughter will be in DCC as well.
Letās have them connect I actually set up my niece with her then-became-husband from a CC connection!
p.s. Iām not implying I think 18yo should get married, just that real life connections sometimes come from CC!!!
My son is also DCC! Engineering major but loves to compose music.
Thatās awesome! Same with mine (engineering major, loves to compose music). What a nice group this will be.
Congrats! My daughter got into the ACES LLP, which also lives in Prince Frederick. Iām happy to hear that it is such a nice dorm. We looked at it on a map and it looks like a great locationāvery close to the dining hall.
DD is also into theatre! (scenic design & construction, ended up technical director). Kinda stinks that UMD doesnāt have a traditional theatre minor with ability to focus on onstage/backstage like a lot of other schools. There are multiple student-run theatre orgs, though. Has your DS decided on UMD? DD still has some RD applications sheās waiting for before final decision.
Thatās cool. I was reading about DCC and apparently DCC kids spend two years in Prince Frederick - first year in traditional doubles and then second year in 4-BR suites. By junior year (and with APs) hopefully the kids get a good dorm option.
Most students move off campus by junior year. On campus housing is only guaranteed the 1st two years. There has been a glut of off campus apartments being built near campus, also older homes a little farther away with lower rents. The benefit of living on campus for two years is that student can enter housing lottery for the two public private partnership apartment communities on campus.
Before my son started UMD, I was worried about housing, students seem to work things out themselves mostly, leaving parents to worry.
My DS is still waiting for two more RDās to come back, but I think heās very strongly leaning toward UMD and probably DH and I are thinking UMD would be bestā¦
My son is coming from a performing arts high school where he āmajoredā in theater. Waiting to see how Banneker Key decision goes but UMd is in the top 2.
My son has been the stage manager for theater for 3 years. I was really hoping heād pick DCC but their presentation didnāt really focus on the ābackgroundā aspects of performance. Oh well. Itās nice to see other engineering kids with love for the arts, I hope if they end up there they find each other in some way.
Thanks for info! I look at the public-private websites.
Good luck with B/K!
It appears the best opportunities for non-BFA majors are to get involved in the student-run theater orgs. Iām sure theyāll meet there.
