University of Michigan Ann Arbor Early Action Fall 2024

My son didn’t take calc in HS either, initially entered LSA and was accepted into Ross after freshman year (this was the norm then, he’s class of ‘19). He was a finance major and not having taken calc was not an issue and graduated with high honors. Hope this helps puts you and your daughter at ease.

Not sure how Calc weighs in for admission. But as a side note about Calc. My child took college calc 1 and 2 through the HS and UMich gave her credit for Calc 1 not 2. The 2 was missing a component to qualify for Calc 2. They did however give credit for an additional departmental math. So we learned all classes even the AP’s need to be evaluated for specific credit no mather where the kids end up.

Michigan is very very picky on credits for their math and science classes. Even transfers have to get approval. They might even ask to see the syllabus or final tests. My son went to Michigan for engineering and took a Calc course at home over the summer at a community College that has a good relationship with Michigan. It still wasn’t an easy transfer. It has to have every component they are looking for. Calc 2 at Michigan is known as a weed out class for many.

What can I tell you. Your competive. That Sat was not, so good decision not to send. With 90,000 it’s hard to predict but if you go to a school with a good history of Michigan acceptances then that’s key.

To take your mind off everything here’s something to listen to… Kinda a big game today.

Go Blue!!

90000 applications ! :flushed:

Well last year was like 88,000. Applications seem to go up when their teams are playing well so… Lol…

Well at least it’s January now. Happy New Year and hoping everyone on CC gets accepted.

I may have missed it, but is the thought that OOS students who applied before 11/1 may not hear a decision until after 1/31?

A lot of OoS kids get postponed and pushed back til end of March.

You might not hear till mid April regardless when you applied. Getting accepted is the key not when that happens.

Michigan football beat Alabama and is going to the championship game next week. It was a sloppy game and they didn’t play their best. Could of lost many times in the game but not giving up and perseverance won the game.

This is an analogy to being a student at Michigan. My engineering son used to tell me. “We all struggle together”.

They all also ended up with amazing opportunities and job offers.

Go Blue.

Early action apps will hear a yes, no or defer at the end of Jan. Many defers go til mid/end April. We are oos and my child and a few others from our h/s did hear a yes last year at the end of Jan. So there is def hope! But people usually say oos apps are more likely to hear defers or no’s in Jan.

Daughter has a few updates…academic competition win, captain of a winter sport, althletic awards. I can’t find a clear answer on how to submit…is there a place on the portal, should she email admissions or is not advisable to submit at this point?

Does U of M typically have a single admit day/campus day or do they have multiple admit days/campus days? Is it usually in March or April? Just wondering what happens to all the deferred kids who don’t hear a decision until mid April….

Send to her AO on the admissions page. You can also ask admissions if there is a way to upload. Usually they say it won’t matter which is why the first way makes sure it gets into your file. But Michigan will usually tell you what they need.

Usually can only go to “admit” day if admitted. You can arrange a campus visit also.

There are virtual visits also.

Does anyone know if the date for EA has come out? I haven’t seen anything but someone told me it was in Jan last year.

Post #166 above:

Michigan has not, to my knowledge, ever published the EA release date in advance. The best guess is that last Friday in January.
