The only way to know is to look at those accepted at your feeder high school and see what it took to get in. That is your measuring stick. Also depending on what your major is not all APs weigh the same but challenging yourself is a good thing. GPA and rigor are important to Michigan.
What scores did you get on APs? What major are you applying to?
Ap Chem-3 Ap bio-4 Ap stats-4 and I applied for molecular bio major
Any portal astrology tips as we get closer to Michigan release? Their portal is pretty straightforward. I’m expecting a denial or (at best) a postponement, but it’s fun to play along!
So in the past there are been some “portal” changes usually on the Monday or Tuesday before the release or something like that. You will know it when you see it is all I can say. It is their software maintenence. Let’s say uploading stuff. There have been multiple theories but it’s only Jan 8th and I think we all have to get together and hope Michigan wins the National Championship tonight… . Just relax and enjoy.
UM should release decisions during the game tonight. Imagine the excitement.
That… Would be awesome but not happening
None recently. They appear to have fixed them in the past few years.
But, “in the old days,” there were the famous disappearing portal tabs, “x” transcript required vs no transcript “x” etc.
Seems like yesterday when people broke the web page code … Lol
My son is a senior there and Ann Arbor was wild last night. He went to the Rose Bowl with friends, too. What a lucky kid to have such an amazing senior year!
My friends daughter is in Madrid for study abroad and a junior at Michigan. Michigan rented out a bar for them to watch the game. But the bar closed at half time. Lol. They all watched on their phones on apps. Go Blue. Glad your son had fun. Saw pics last night from AA. 25,000 downtown…
Wow. 25K in downtown AA must’ve been wild. I’m anxiously waiting for him to wake up so I can hear about the festivities!
I’m impressed that my Daughters AO replied to an email at 7 am this morning! Would guess last night may have been a late one in AA

Early Action Applicant
*Being “recruited” by track team but not yet offerred official visit but told by Track Coach that his name has been provided to Admissions Department and now “added to the list of Michigan Official Recruited Athletes for Fall 2024”
Has been offered other D1, D2 full ride scholarships
How does EA + “Recruited Athlete” bode for an EA Admission?
Thank you!!!
That would be a conversation with the coach, if he’s a recruited athlete. Have you had conversations about money, preferred walk on, NLI?
I would talk with admissions but if your son is truly a “recruited” athlete it increases his chances. There is an article from like 2018 (behind a paywall and can only read a little, and it was going into the acceptances of the around 350 student athletes. It was high and with your sons grades it looks good. But if you can verify his name is on the recruited list then well, welcome to Michigan. But check first.
Lots of athletes, performers, band members etc get accepted EA and leaves less for the normal just smart kids …
Remember everyone, Michigan is building a class and they might need tuba players this year and last year they needed X… They pick to their needs and same goes with regular EA picks. They don’t want all 4.0/35 Act kids. They want to mix it up. Which is why holistic review is so important
Good Luck.
My son (Virginia resident) was recently admitted to both The University of Pittsburgh (main campus) and Penn State (main campus) for International Studies. Is he competitive for Michigan? Lots of AP/Dual Enrollment courses and outstanding essays.
Thank you…your feedback is much appreciated. Is it appropriate to “double-check” with admissions to verify an email from a coach saying they’ve added him to their recruit list?
Please don’t take this as snide, but if your child has other D1 offers you should know how the recruiting process works and that it entails having a good rapport with the coach. Being recruited is more than getting a name to admission, but discussions of how you’re viewed, others at your position or event, and possible money. If you don’t trust that coach to have been honest with you, that’s a red flag.
