University of Michigan Ann Arbor Early Action Fall 2024

And after the entire Rick Singer debacle, I would not call admissions and ask if my kid was on a “list.” That’s bound to raise some hackles, even if it’s a well-known fact coaches advocate for athletes. I’d go to the coach and have some candid conversations about his actual interest. And with full-ride offers elsewhere, it really is odd that this seems so… casual? Off-hand? If a kid wants to be a college athlete the conversations are far more involved than “I’ll slip your name to admissions.”

If you have an email from the coach then you are good. I might if missed that part. But never hurts to ask either the coach or admissions so you understand.

Avg at Michigan is unweighted 3.9 with 32-35 act or equivalent to Sat. Rigor and GPA is the two main things they look at. Getting accepted to other colleges is not.

We don’t know the families conversations with the coach and not all are that hands on but if they have an email from the coach then that is a good thing. Nothing in life is guaranteed. But their odds look good. I would follow up with the coach to confirm so they understand the intent of the letter. Coaches /admissions have heard it all before. They are there to help.

My D24 didn’t apply EA to UMich. She did get into a few schools --sadly not her ED-- so far. She decided that maybe she didn’t apply to UM because she was so focused on her ED and missed how good it was for her.

OOS in Indiana-- does she even have a shot if she didn’t apply for EA?
Without listing all her stats – her SAT is 1540 and has all the things. But we know that it only a part of this process. The question is more about OOS for RD – do they even consider folks from that pool?
We don’t qualify for need-based aid and can make the cost work.

I’m no expert, but I don’t think EA helps tremendously, possibly at all. There is no commitment so it’s not a yield protection whatever. You are probably in the same boat as EA folks

Michigan has previously stated on their website that RD and postponed/deferred EA apps get equal treatment.

But IMO, getting your application completed and submitted 3 months early (EA) expresses demonstrated interest, a higher level of commitment to the admissions process and the ability to plan and execute an early submission.

Others will disagree, of course. Like the Michigan’s admissions department.

Yes they look at the application multiple times. It’s also why you wait. Lol.

Did anyone else’s
DS or DD apply for School of Information preferred admission?

I haven’t been here very long so I’m really out of the loop on some of the lingo being used on this forum. What is DS and DD?

Well first thing is to pay off your aunt

Your totally qualified. How many acceptances does your school get yearly and how many actually go to Michigan. So to self edited… Did anyone with your grades /stats not get into Michigan that applied?? School history helps and you can see how many with your stats etc get accepted. I bet a lot do, especially being instate, but always have back ups. Good luck.

Yes they accept lots from RD. That’s why they don’t accept a full class from EA—they want to see who else is out there. I think the AOs are so overworked they don’t have time to create imaginary scenarios for why you didn’t apply earlier.
There are some schools that “fill up” early (Pitt, UMD), but I have never heard that about Michigan.

I have no special knowledge but I think your application sounds terrific! I’m sure your aunt can’t say anything or get involved BUT I would hope and expect her colleagues in the undergrad admissions will give you as careful and thorough look as they can. You’ve worked hard and have an impressive application for sure. Wishing you and all the hopeful Wolverines on here the best of luck!!

I was told it stands for Darling Daughter and Dear Son…which I find a bit much. I prefer just “my kid.” But that’s me. Everyone should proceed with their own comfort words.
